In the article it said they had a valid 5 year visa..and they only stayed for one year..so how are they 2 weeks over? Nut

So when visiting Japan, you need more than one check/credit card?

Because, they didn't look at the expiration date on their visa. They probably assumed just the year, or figured it was exactly 5 years from their entry date, or just plain forgot. Since they were students, if school ended after their visas expired (which they should have LOOKED...some time in 5 YEARS you MUST notice Beaten), they should have resolved it beforehand. To me it's pretty simple: look at your visa, buy your ticket home. In my opinion, it's not really that damn difficult to know when you need to be out of the country....by then you kinda wanna go home anyway (oops, did I say that? Beaten) I say overstaying is either a) blatant disregard, or b) carelessness. Shake Head

Plus, as students, they warn you about this stuff at school, before, after, and during your stay. This crackdown was discussed when I was going over, I'm not sure if it was official then or now. I was warned about it so many times. They told me I couldn't even fly to Korea for a day or few and come back to Japan to extend my stay if I wanted to (and it's true), although it didn't really apply to me b/c my visa ran way longer than I was even staying. Some people try to pull that crap too...thinking it gets renewed by the usual 90 day tourist "visa" for people visiting from certain countries like the U.S. Nope, doesn't work Beaten

I spent a few days in Tokyo. There are many interesting things to see and do but I will take the Kansai area any day. I love Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe much better. I think the people in Kansai were much more friendly at least that was my experience. Of course I am happy to travel to any place in Japan. Cool!

I've lived in Tokyo when I was little before staying the the states permenatly. It was fun. Spend my days in Shinjuku and Akihabara and going to my favorite little resturants when my parents wern't home. Slipping to Ginza to buy stuff. All fun fun. I like Tokyo life I don't kno why. California seems boring compared to it. I lived in Kasukabe also. not that far from the Tokyo area. Japan is great. I'll probably go back when I finish College. Maybe Play Bass Trombone with one of the Symphony Orchestras =)

I've never been to Tokyo unless I happened to have driven through it. I've been to Narita, Shimoda, Ido, Yokohama, and a few other places, but I do want to go to Tokyo maybe Fukuoka.
