that's my point, onsen is NOT beyond...it's a myth....it all depends where you go....
i was just as fearful but when i actually went to that onsen in Hakone it wasn't nearly as hot as i expected....
cool deal yo...
i also think, i would want a private one for myself, indoors or out,
just for the experience...
i think another myth is people think that tokyo is hella expensive, and in some ways yes, it is....but it can be affordable too, what people who haven't been there before, don't yet realize...of course.

yeah it is more expensive than the average...but if you pick selectively you can definitely save...it's a matter of living there on a daily basis that would be expensive...rent, utilities, so on and so forth...

no doubt, tokyo blows away most cities with regard to expense with the exception of maybe a few european cities such as london, stockholm, or oslo, and maybe new york city.

HK is quite crazy too, with over 7 million people in that city, and the massive high rise buildings both old and new...
my first exp in Asia, back in '92
Fully equiped with maid (not the same type you have in Akihabara ) You can get a small studio in Roppongi, smaller than an hotel room for 230,000-275,000 yen a month. If you don't want to go insane and get 1 bedroom, it's 512,000-661,000.
Kind of nice the first few weeks you're in town. Just the time to get you a smaller place, 2 hours away. _________________

LOL...nice.
not suprisingly it costs a fortune every month but they look quite modern and clean with western style appointments...i mean it's not just an empty room with tatami mats on the floor.

Yep. My kind of place. Especially the part about not having to clean up.
From their faq: Apartment hotels, first introduced in Japan by Asahi Homes, are extended-stay hotels that provide optimal living accommodations for expatriate executives on assignment in Japan and other people in Tokyo for long stays.
