Its alright, I know how you guys feel. Going by yourself is scary. Especially when you're not that fluent in the language. But Japanese people are way too nice to judge your Japanese ability. They're soo helpful IMO. Well the yakuza are a different story and if you run into them I dont think any language you're fluent in would help you. _________________

I don't think the yakuza are walking the streets with the general public anyways...

Im also going by myself, but I do stay with a host family and I also attend a japanese language school. I think its a lot more challenging and fun if you go by yourself.

Its a short term school so its about 3 weeks. Then about 1 week to travel some of honshuu and then back to America I go...
What school you going to be studying Japanese?
Also how did you decide on this (is it part of your major, career etc. or just for self improvement, if so then how much is it going to cost for those 3 weeks)
Thanks in advance. _________________

Great to hear you have a good time Qilver ^_^
I will be going this August to Japan as well but I'm still a bit nervous (ok I lie, I'm really damn nervous as I still don't have a good plan as to places I will visit...)
You guys need to give me a hand with where I should go (and please don't say temple after temples... I already got a list of those, and after 2-3 you get tired hehe) I want to know the hang out spots, the teenager hang out spots and stuff for people my age (that would be 20/21)
Due to my crazy shrimp/shellfish allergy I will be forced to eat a lot of American food and stuff from the kombini but I don't mind. I prefer to be alive the whole trip then enjoy some Japanese good and die the next minute hehe. (I hear they got wendy's, subway etc. so I'm good with that)
So bmwracer, qilver, and the rest of ya guys, give me a hand here as a pal and as a Jdorama member. Put a few of the places you have visited and liked, the places you wish you could go, or just places you think I could like.
Now as to what I would like I know is hard cause ya don't know me personally so I will give ya a quick summary hehe.
I'm pretty young and all so I like doing interesting stuff and hanging out.
Music is a big part of my life and I enjoy anything related to it.
I'm pretty fit and workout at least 5 times a week (not sure how this info might help in figuring out what I would like, but hey you never know maybe I could try NINJA WARRIOR hahaha). I don't like anime, manga, or otaku related stuff (other than maybe some technology like cell phones etc. but that's just general technology, not otaku stuff hehe).
Is pretty hard to describe yourself, but as ya post some ideas I will mention if that's like me (if I would like) or if that doesn't fit me.
Not sure how this might even be possible, but I like Japanese schools as portrayed in dramas so checking one out might be cool. I like old Japan but I know I will get bored after a bit (I think after 3 days of kyoto or a similar city I think I will reach my limit hehe)
If I had to put words to describe me this would be it:
-noisy/talkative and silent
-naughty and decent
-bold and timid
-active and passive
-simple and complicated
-smart and silly
-impetuous and thinkful
But once again, no clue how that might help in ya guys helping me hehe.
As you can see I'm pretty much in square one and need your help badly.
I wrote a list before of some places that seem cool to check out so I will post those later and whatnot.
Thank you very much
Note: Sorry if the post is a bit scattered as thats how I am right now.
I just took 2 benadryls cause I when out eating with my friends and the dumplings had been cross contaminated with some shrimps and yeah to make the story short, I took 2 benadryls = drowsy/head floating) _________________

Want to meet people? Hmm...you might have to go to a smaller city then. Tokyo people tend to keep to themselves. A city like Nagoya or Kyoto might be good to meet people and hang out. Of course karaoke is a good hang out place for ppl too!
@bmw: its not really a cram school. Atleast I dont think it is. Its not too bad, they cater to foreign students and japanese students. So I think most of the staff can speak english. Plus its in Sapporo so I get to drink beer during the beer festival!! _________________

Really? Wow you the first person to suggest that (the going to Kyoto to hang out) I also had no idea Tokyo people kept to themself that much... Thats a downer there cause I was planning the whole trip based on Tokyo. On snap now I'm really lost _________________

I think its nice to travel around. Tokyo is pretty much an Japanese version of New York City. Plus I heard it's most of the smaller cities that have the cute girls. _________________

Yea, I think if I ever went to Japan, I'd visit the smaller cities as well (tho not for the girls ) and spend a few days only in Tokyo. I'd rather see sites I can't see anywhere else in the world. _________________
