So tabana, since you're leaving in a matter of days ( )...what kind of things do you have slated to do...like what kind of things are you really excited about doing....or in other words, what places are you really excited about going to?

Good question... Well, just walking around with my friend should be fun enough. I wanted to go to Japan for the past 10 or 12 years, so I'm quite happy to go.
I'm suppose to visit really old things as well as ultra modern. Even simple things like checking the view on top of the tallest building in Japan, walking in a bamboo grove, seeing drunk oyajis and busu gyaru in Tokyo will be great. We're not even sure what will do in Tokyo, yet.
To tell you the truth, just relaxing at the onsen will be awesome. I haven't had a week off since 5 years ago. Just not working and not thinking about work will be good enough for me.
Maybe just eat! Good Japanese food! Not frozen crap. _________________

Ah, I'm sure doing all that will be really fun. Just seeing and doing something different is a refreshing experience....and it definitely sounds like you need a vacation.
If you see this guy...bring back the wig as a souvenir...omiyage.

I will be leaving very soon to Tokyo. I will be in Shinagawa next week. Where are you staying? I can give you a few pointers as far as what to see in Tokyo. I am also planning on going to Kyoto and Hiroshima.
I am not sure if Takayama is worth a day trip, but i hear it is very nice.

I'm actually staying at many places... a business hotel at first in Yokohama. Then 2 different onsen in Hakone (I forgot their names ) then an apartment in Tokyo near Ueno station. 5 min walk. Also took an hotel in Narita before leaving called Narita View Hotel. It was well rated at many places and like 10000 for 2 persons with free shuttle.
Great! I'm always welcoming advices. I'm pretty much setup for the Yokohama, Kamakura and Hakone. I'm just following my guide. For Tokyo, we haven't decided yet. We have a bunch of pamphlets and books, but I guess it depends of the temperature. If it's sunny walk around, if it rains... don't know. Eat perhaps. I don't want to go back, until I tried every restaurants in the greater Tokyo area. _________________

that is a lot of places, but you'll get a good view and experience of some of japan.
I am heading all over, Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Kobe, Hakone, and a few other places.
Tokyo alone, first place that comes to mind, besides my favorite Akihabara, is Asakusa(Sensoji Kannon Temple) that is a must-see.
i'll try to think of others in Tokyo.

I would recommend an overnighter - agreed, you can visit the old town, the palace, and the temples in one day but you would miss out on the morning markets, a walk in the mountains, a lovely dinner and most importantely if you are already there, you must visit the village of Shirakawago with its old farmhouses.
ItLs perfect for a slow, taking it easy, having coffees, trying all kind of food, relaxing in a ryokan weekend.

As part of the renovation scheduled for Roppongi Hills' 5th anniversary, the company has announced plans for an open-air sky deck at the top of Mori Tower. Open to the public from April 26th, it will be the highest viewing platform in the country

Yes, but I have to pack light. I'm better at packing 8 pairs of pants for a 2 day trip. _________________

Wow, nice.
And knee-weakening.
It's pretty high up...I went to the observatory deck of the Mori Tower....it's got an indoor 360 degree panoramic view of Tokyo...not nearly as high as the Trade Center though....I had a chance to go to the outdoor observatory deck long ago when it was still around.
