I believe tourists were allowed in certain areas, but now they will have guards to shoo them away.
Yup, you weren't allowed to wander around during the auction, it gets pretty chaotic. Apparently some tourists (mostly Americans I bet ) weren't following the rules.

Well yeah cuz those guys are talking so fast and bidding on these ginormous fish... When I went it was still okay to go into the warehouse where the auctions take place.

My niece was gonna check it out when she heads out there after Christmas...
Well just because she can't attend the auctions which happen at the crack of friekin' dawn doesn't mean she still can't visit the Tsukiji fish market itself. The auctions only take place inside a warehouse but the actually vendors who sell the fish do so outside the auction house at hundreds of stalls/tables. Just walking around and seeing all the fishmongers prep and sell their fishies is really fun and interesting...we spent more time doing that than watching the big ass tuna get auctioned.

That's true.
She will miss out on the auction craziness though.

Yeah, but I can wholeheartedly say the myriad number of vendors and the variety of Aquaman's friends up for sale are definitely worth a peek. Let's remember that Tsukiji is the largest fish market in the world and is a tour de force in its own right, irrespective of the auctions.
Moreover, I would also recommend eating sushi in the early morn at Sushi Daiwa...something I didn't do but wish I had.
