Clubbox is a relatively new way to obtain/share dramas. Some information can be found at: http://jdorama.com/viewtopic.4902.0.htm

The Official Clubbox thread on d-addicts:
http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14132

Here is a place to discuss/ask/answer all the questions about Clubbox.

I hear that it runs off of BT technology. Can anyone verify?

I'd be curious to know the underlying technology too.

Since I don't know Korean, I was wondering if anyone who does could tell me if the clubbox site has a privacy policy and what it says? I'm just suspicious that you can only access the service via a proprietary client.

Highly unlikely. I'm not sure if clubbox is a variant of BT, but it looks like a specialized form of FTP, but more efficient.

Just tried out Club Box. I uploaded one file and am in the process of downloading one. Looks pretty interesting. I'll have to look into it for downloading some dramas in the future.

How exactly does the upload work? Head Scratch
It says I'm uploading a file at 350k/s but I know my upload limit is about 20-30k/s.

More efficient than FTP? that's not really possible since FTP will go as fast as your connection will go Smile

Now, if anyone here remembers FSP, which was pretty much like the very first P2P protocol, well, it would probably be more efficient than that. Bonk

Ok I found out that if someone else has the same file you are uploading the upload is transferred from their server resulting in 300+k speeds. Bleah

Anyways, here are 2 random things I uploaded:

1. Rika Ishikawa - Graduation Memorial DVD
http://down.clubbox.co.kr/rizenx/fnm61

2. The Infamous Pacers/Pistons Brawl
http://down.clubbox.co.kr/rizenx/xmn61

since it's all in korean, does anyone have a quick run down on how to "clubbox"? i'm thinking at the very least you have to have a login/PW, right?

I think most of the answers you seek can be found in the first post of this topic: http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14132

My understanding is: an account is not necessary to download most materials. It is necessary if you want to upload files. But in either case you will need to download an ActiveX component (hence it is limited to Windows systems running IE).

Only for Clubbox. For all other browsing tasks, use Firefox.

You won't really "see" it unless you have a bandwidth meter. If you want to upload to your own clubbox, I believe the button to do it is orange. Not sure, I never really set up a clubbox for uploading. I leech from others hehe

The problem with Clubbox is that the files you upload expire unless enough people download it, and in regular intervals. The goal is to become a "gold" box, but I don't know what the criteria is to be one. The files in a gold box never expire. I know that JEM's box recently became gold.

^^Yeah, that is the norm. If you leech from someone's box, they get points. The more points you get, the closer you become to going gold. If you go gold, your file storage is permanent. What happens is your daily points are averaged each month. On your inspection day, if you have 500 points, BAM, you're gold. It's pretty difficult to get gold so people are always running around pimping their boxes saying "Download from MY box!". When you get gold, you have 1 TB of storage. If you need more, you have to be able to communicate in Korean to request it from a Clubbox Admin.

The points for clubbox are a ratio of your total file storage and the amount downloaded, then averaged out over the days. So, when you are trying to go gold, your best bet is to upload unique files that not many people have so there'll be a demand to download from your box. Also, don't upload a TON of stuff at once or even over a short period. I'd suggest at the beginning to keep your storage under 2 GB until you know how popular your box is becoming. You can also have it so that if people PM you for requests to upload something, upload it and you know people will leech it.

Uploading to a silver box, your files only last 10 days. If your box gets demoted to bronze, you can't upload at all. You have to wait for it to go back up to silver. It's sort of like a punishment for getting no points.

Unfortunately Jem's box took a long time to go gold. Although his files are popular, people still had the BT alternative. Plus there were a lot of files in there. On top of that, people were uploading his files to their boxes and splitting the opportunity to get leechers. So the files would be deleted after 10 days and there weren't enough points being earned. If you upload a file to your clubbox that is already in others, your upload is much faster because it's a partial "internal transfer".

I just wanted to add some things about Clubbox in a separate post. A couple months ago, Clubbox added the "basket" feature. Basically you check off a bunch of files you want and add them to your "basket". Click an orange button on the left that says "basket" in Korean. All you need to know is the Korean character for "b", which looks like a long U with a line across the middle. hehe So you don't have to queue them individually anymore nor do you have to search and bookmark more than once. Just find them and add them to the basket.

Leaving your clubbox client open gives you "mileage". It's 10 mileage points per hour. You have to be signed in, of course. I usually save them until I get 5000 mileage points. With 5000 mileage points, you can cash them in for a 30GB quick download coupon. You'll then have about 20 days to use 30GB worth of quick downloads. Your download will usually be much faster for files you mark for quick download. I've gotten over 200KB/s for some files. Sometimes the speed for certain files and/or boxes is slow or at a standstill. Your quick download points will not be deducted if you can't reach 50KB/s.

Cashing in your points is quite easy. You go to clubbox's main site and sign in. Then at the top where all your stuff is, you'll see an option to click on your points. Usually you can guess, whichever one has a high number because you should be ready to cash them in at this point. You are taken to the coupon list page. Click on which you want and confirm. To download files using quick download, click on the dark blue button instead of the light blue one.
