Went out with a Hispanic girl a few times, but since we were coworkers we thought better of it...

Interestingly, we're still friends... She even invited me to her wedding way back then.

Agrees.

LOL!!! and agrees.
My answer: Yes. As a person who's of mixed parentage, i find this ethnicity thing rather misleading. I always experience identity crisis whenever ppl ask questions about dating out of your race. I mean I'm Chinese and Malay. So what does outside my ethnicity mean?
Definitions...

It's the exact opposite for me. I've always dated hispanic girls because non-hispanic girls don't seem to be interested in me. I wouldn't mind dating someone of different ethnicity than me.

In your case, someone African, Caucasian or Hispanic, would be outside your ethnicity, right?

That is actually to me an interesting point. It depends on how big a stickler you are. I, for one, can't see lumping all people all over ASia into only one group any more than considering everyone who has black skin to be African, and so on.......

Were you interested in them?

I thought you were half and half? SO which side counts? _________________

Nope.
Both parents are Chinese...
But nothing in my house is Chinese... Except for me.

Hmmm didn't we have this discussion, as to what we consider a person's ethnicity? It was in the the thread called "What is your ethnicity?" Did we ever come to a conclusion? Well I know AM confused.
I think Jav_sol was breaking it down into some of the major racial groups, except for Hispanic, wasn't he?
I took the question of this thread to mean would you date outside of your race. Or it could mean outside of your nationality or even religion?

Nope, it goes farther back than that... Back to my junior high school days, starting at age 12, I guess.

Well, I married outside my race, to a Japanese lady. And we had some dates before we "got serious", so yeah.
(I am not sure what people mean by "dating" - for some this means sex, others romance, and others just a social event with one person without expectations.)
Anyway, having any kind of relations with a person from another culture can really broaden your outlook. Sometimes people go to other cultures to escape the restrictions of their own culture.
When I told my Mom that I was dating Toshi, she leaned close to me and whispered something about Pearl Harbor.
But in time they became fast friends.
Something like that, BMW? |
@Itazura ichiban: Love conquers all! I am glad to hear about your happy ending!
I liked your thoughts about dating a person from a different culture. So true!
My parents were from two different races, two different religions and their education levels were quite different too. Yet their marriage worked. Good thing that they had this one thing in common; they both grew up and were raised in New York City.

That's what I thought. My Grandfather thought dating outside of your religion was out of control until he got used to the idea.

Not one thing "Made IN CHina".
Im not sure why I thought you were only half Chinese.....

Well I didnt leave my "race" but someone from Norway is more different than someone of Asian/Black/Hispanic extraction who was raised in AMerica. And he has definitely broadened my outlook! And my smile! _________________
