hehe hehe

Don't worry Cassius,

We have Ian Thorpe. He'll probably end up winning about 50 percent of all of the total medals. Just like what he did in 2000.

I like to see some of the less popular sports like canoeing and team handball and fencing. Archery and shooting are cool, too.

I also like to watch volleyball. I don't like beach volleyball though. I don't know why beach volleyball is an olympic sport.

Yes. I would tend to agree. Methinks the gold for b-ball hath been secured by one team; that team?

In any case, I'm praying for a safe 2004 'lympics Yes!

You got it. It's be nice to see more coverage of the non-glam sports... I'd love to see the table tennis... It's awesome. Big Grin

Someone lobbied for it, I bet. Just like rhythmic gymnastics or synchronized swimming: OLYMPIC sports?? WTF?

If it's anything like the 2002 film Ping Pong, heck, give 'em an entire week's coverage.

Haha. You somehow quoted my pre-edited "Ping Poing" [emphasis added]. The film IS Ping Pong.

There was also some kind of exhibition in Hawai'i and, cripes, if these guys didn't defy the laws of physics.

Yep. The speed, power, and spin that they put on that little ball is amazing... And no CGI like in Forrest Gump. hehe

Well see if Ian's flippers can show the junior Phelps a lesson or two!!!

Bring it on FLIPPERS VS THE MOUTH!!! Boxing

Twisted
GO AUSSIE!!!!
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!!! OI OI OI!!!

OI OI OI

Phelps likes to contradict himeself, first he says he's going for the spitz's record of 7 gold medal then he says he'd be happy with 1 gold medal.

My prediction is he'll get 4 gold and 1 silver or if he's put on the 4x100 FR then 5 gold and 1 silver.

gold in:
200 IM
400 IM
200 Fly
4x100 MR

silver in 100 Fly

gold in 4x100 FR if they decide to put him on it (which I think they will).

I also say he won't medal in the 200 FR. Thorpe, Hoogie and Grant will get the 1,2,3 in that order.

I'm also predicting an upset in the 400 FR where Grant will out touch Thorpe. Thorpe is concentrating too much on his 100 that I think it will affect his 400 and Grant seems stronger in 400 lately.

I'm also predicting a clean sweep by the aussie girls in all 3 relays go girls!. High hopes for Henry, Lenton, Mills and Thomas or Ryan (probably Ryan) for the 4x100 FR. If Giann can do a PB (which I think she can) in the back for the 4x100 MR then the aussie will be in a good position to take the gold because we have 2 WR holders (Lenton for the free and Leisel for the breast) and Thomas has the fastest 100 fly relay split ever! 4x200 has a pretty good field as well, Thomas, McKienzie, Graham and Henry.

What else...oh yeah I don't think Kitajima will beat Hansen this time round. His performance this year has not been anywhere near what he did last year.

Only another day to go, bring it on!

USA! USA USA!!!

hehe their certainly favourites - but their no longer guarrantees to win the gold (ie; the dream team of barcelona '92)

the rest of the world is catching up and despite the fact that the US has the most talented squad, they dont necessarily have the best cohesive team, eg; argentina, italy, spain, etc - who have been playing together for yrs...

I remembered when I was studying in Sydney.I was pissed that every saturday night they are showing Rugby matches and on Sunday is cricket on the tv. Slowly after staying there for 4 years, I became a sports frantic. However when I came back to Singapore, all my passion for sports dies down as the only sports that the whole nation is crazy about is soccer. The last medal that Singapore got in Olympics was a silver medal in weightlifting and that was ages ago.

Hopefully Singapore will be able to bring back one medal from table tennis. Not forgetting wishing Australia all the best esp in the swimming events.

Back in Sydney 2000, the Americans are saying that they will beat the Australians in swimming like smashing guitar but it was all the other way around. rofl

Therefore AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!!! OI OI OI!!!!

Definitely will be catching Volleyball & swimming.[/quote]

OK, just saw on TV the following results thus far (at least at about 6:10pm, Hawai'i time) in this XXVIII 'lympics:

China with 6 medals
USA and Australia (oi) tied with 5 medals a piece (and I DO believe I saw that Phelps got a gold as did Thorpe and, uh, I think Phelps broke a RECORD IN HIS FEAT!!!!)
Italy, Japan, and Ukraine tied w/2 medals each as of this writing. By the way . . . Japan's sole two medals thus far? Both GOLD, for judo.

Nobody from China wanna raise their fist on this board here, heheheh? Maybe they don't have to, actions speaking louder than words and all.

And, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm not neglecting to mention, technically speaking, the Australians got 2 golds so far, US w/just one. Don't think I'm sweating -- we're not even past the full first weekend yet. And if you don't think I ain't gonna' say, well, I am: 'twas quite sweet to watch the USA women's b-ball team nearly crack a hundred points over New Zealand's 40-something points.

Cripes, it is just so difficult to not watch the events on TV. Just watched 'till 5am last night, hahah.

Hmmm . . . I feel like I'm forgetting to OH, YEAH, USA! USA! USA!

Well, I haven't seen much so far. But I did manage to catch the opening ceremony last night, almost in its entirety, so that was pretty damn awesome. Especially to see all the countries and athletes gathered on the floor and practically covering the whole floor, and the way that it was arranged looked like it was planned and they had some design. Everything from the history to present presentation with the incredibly realistic mannequins, to the lighting of the torch and people running through the air was top-notch. I managed to catch a few events late last night, like the first gold medal awarded to China in shooting, a beach volleyball match between Australia and China, with Australia dominating, not too surprising, and part of the softball match between US and Italy, where the US was completely dominating. It sucks I missed the swimming events, but at least I still have the gymnastics and track events to look forward to, and hopefully other swim events.

I watched the Olympics today! I was at the gym and chose the olympics over world series of poker and baseball while running. Basically because it was women's diving and the pair of Chinese girls were cute and then it was Chinese vs USA volleyball and the Chinese team had cuter girls so I rooted for them and they won! Yea go China! hehe hehe
