Plumbing blunder leaves Hiroshima U. students drinking toilet water since 1993

HIGASHIHIROSHIMA, Hiroshima -- A plumbing blunder at Hiroshima University's Higashi-Hiroshima Campus resulted in water for toilet flushing being sent to drinking taps for more than a decade, it has emerged.

University officials announced the mix-up on Friday. The problem was uncovered after about 80 students at the campus who drank the water in July fell ill, with symptoms including vomiting and diarrhea.

Officials said the pipes for high quality drinking water and low grade toilet flushing water at the gymnasium on the campus had been attached the wrong way around. They said it was believed the pipes had been fitted incorrectly since the gymnasium was completed in April 1993. (Mainichi)

From FUJITV News:
Police in Kagoshima Prefecture arrested a 17-year-old male on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly attacking and injuring two men with a sickle.

The victims were identified as a 58-year-old landowner and his son. The suspect allegedly lost his temper after the landowner admonished him for using a cell phone on his property.

Canned noodles emerging as hit product in Japan

Canned ramen is lined up at a vending machine in Tokyo's Akihabara district.

Canned noodles are emerging as a hit product across Japan following last year's rising popularity of canned oden in Tokyo's Akihabara district.

Kyoto-based vending machine manufacturer Fujitaka was the first company to come out with canned ramen. In May this year it began selling Sapporo-style noodles, which gained huge popularity, mainly in the Akihabara district. In June, the company added hiyashi-men (chilled noodles) to its lineup of canned products.

The noodles are made from konnyaku to prevent them from going soggy when they soak up the noodle soup. Since no hot water is needed they can be eaten straight away.

Now the company's canned products are sold in vending machines across Japan. They are reportedly so popular that the firm is having trouble keeping up with demand.

Other firms have also introduced canned noodle products such as curry udon and Hakata-style ramen. The canned products, which can be stored for about three years at room temperature, have gained attention as a form of emergency food, and local bodies across Japan have reportedly contacted manufacturers with inquiries about stockpiling the products. 3D printing has come to the operating room

The University of Tokyo Hospital has pioneered the use of an ink jet type printer to build artificial bones, layer by layer. First a custom 3D model is made, using information from scans and X Rays. The printer then lays down a kind of laminate: powder layers are laid down one by one and then a polymer adhesive is printed drop by drop, just like the ink in your desktop printer. The liquid and powder set hard – 10 times tougher than conventional, hydroxylapatite based artificial bones.

Successful trials have already been carried out on a Corgi (thankfully, we managed to avoid the obvious "give a dog a bone" headline) and 10 human females. The next round of tests is due to start this fall, and researchers expect this cheap and fast tech to be in widespread use by 2010.

      Japanese Schoolgirl Watch: Pervert-Proof Panties

For years, schoolgirls have had to be vigilant about jerks with cameras trying to get a panchira (panty-glimpse) up their skirts. But they have an even creepier problem now: Clever degenerates are modifying their videocam's night-vision mode to see right through fabric, revealing all. Enter textile company Cramer Japan, which has developed a nylon and polyurethane weave that blocks infrared rays. The result? ShotGuard Inner Shorts, panties that are impervious to pervs. Adding to the deterrent is that the $17 underwear is available only in a fetish-stifling beige. Next up for Cramer: voyeur-resistant bras.

Ex-president of Hakuhodo affiliate busted for drugging, molesting female subordinate

SHIZUOKA -- A former president of a subsidiary of leading advertising agent Hakuhodo Inc. was arrested after giving a female subordinate medicine that made her feel groggy, and taking her to his home where he molested her, police said.

Takashi Koike, 58, former president of Shizuoka Hakuhodo Inc., stands accused of indecent assault. He admitted to the allegations during questioning. He was dismissed from the company following the incident.

When Koike dined with the 28-year-old woman on July 25, he urged her to take medicine and took her to his home in Shizuoka after she became groggy, local police said. He then fondled the body of the victim for about an hour, according to investigators. (Mainichi)

Why are Japanese people concerned with Blood types? Like, if on a group date, they ask for name, age, etc., and also blood type...

It's like when people ask for your astrological sign--the different blood types indicate personality types. Here's more info on the subject:
