I just wanted to make note of another actor giving a great performance: Hiromi Nagasaku as the scheming Yodo. I saw her awhile back in an otherwise forgettable drama "Rasauto Pureznto" (Last Present) she played this sweet girl working in a flower shop. She made such a change as Yodo that it took me about 3 or 4 episodes racking my brain, "Damn, where have I seen her?" When I finally realized who it was, at first I thought "No, it's gotta be somebody else." But I checked the credits and it's her. Great job Nagasaku-san! Applaud

Well, Kyomei ga Tsuji wrapped up last night. GREAT JOB EVERYBODY! I really enjoyed this one. So many great performances, but the one that surprised me most was Kamikawa as Kazutoyo. I had only seen him in one drama before, Shiroi Kage and I didn't much like that drama, so consequently, I wasn't too impressed with him. But he more than held his own with Yukie for 49 episodes. Applaud

So desu.

Sumimasen... Sweat ashamed

They did show a preview of the new Taiga, debuting on 2/10... Needless to say, Gackt appears to be miscast as a samurai. Beaten

I finished Komyo ga Tsuji a few days ago. The biggest drawback of this dorama is that the two leading characters are not particularly compelling figures, Chiyo is so understanding, so kind, so supportive, and so bland. Kazutoyo is basically a dumb jock.

It is the other characters that inject life and interest into this series. The unholy trinity of Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu dominate the storyline and are entertainingly portrayed by a pretty good actor (Hiroshi Tachi), a very good actor (Akira Emoto), and an exceptionally good actor (Toshiyuki Nishida). Then there are the C3PO/R2D2 clones (who themselves were clones of the Tahei/Matashichi duo in Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress), played with relish by a pair of consummate veterans--Tetsuya Takeda and Gin Maeda.

A decent enough series but not among the best Taiga dorama I have seen.

Coming after YoSHITsune, if they'd had a Taiga dorama called, "Yukie Nakama Reads the Osaka Phone Book" it would still have been considered a huge improvement.

It takes a lot of incompetence to screw up the legend of Yoshitsune, but somehow NHK did it. Regrettable, since the story of Yoshitsune, Benkei, and Yoritomo is among the most famous and fascinating in Japanese history, entertainingly combining fact and mythology.

Yukie Nakama reading the phone book would be almost as compelling as her depiction of Chiyo. Of course she'd have to get Rokuheita, her childhood savior/ninja/advisor/guardian angel, to point out the trends present in the directory.
