I agree. There's a time a place for everything, and venting stress at a press conference of all places is just not smart, especially for a relatively new actress such as herself. Plus, she has a reputation of having a holier than thou attitude. It's a major turn-off to many people. If she really wants to establish herself as a professional, she needs to learn how to get a handle on that.
More news from Japan-zone.com:
Actress Sawajiri Erika(21) is one of several major celebrities doing damage control in the last couple of days. In Sawajiri's case it follows harsh criticism of her recent grumpy behavior. On her official website today, she issued a statement formally apologizing to fans and organizers of last Friday's PR even for her new movie. While on stage before the screening she appeared sorely pissed off about something, kept her arms folded, and gave only brief and testy replies to questions. In her statement, she acknowledged her bad behavior and that she had "betrayed" her fans, and vowed to learn from the experience. Over the weekend, her attitude was criticized as unprofessional and she was slammed by self-appointed showbiz watchdog Wada Akiko (57). She said it had reinforced her image as a self-centered "jo-sama" or movie queen.
Yes, I totally agree that there has to be a time and place for everything.
And yes, what she did was "unprofessional". But I'll repeat something that I said earlier, absolutely no one knows what's wrong with her. Even with her so called "attitude", (something that I never did believe in as the Japanese press has a tendency to sensationalize everything) she never acted this bad. Ergo, something must have happened since the Radio de culture interview. Have you ever even tried to just stop and think just for a second that maybe she could be going through one of the worst times of her life?
Just try and put yourself in her shoes for a sec. Imagine if you just got the worst news of your life. The worst thing you can possibly think of. For this example, I'll choose.... testicular cancer(if youre a girl, replace that with breast cancer or whatever else you can think of). Someone just told you that they'll have to amputate your... jewels, and that youll never be able to do it ever again. They tell you that you have to get hormone injections everyday of your life just so your body doesnt get all screwed up. Then your manager comes in and says that you have to be all smiles and giggles tomorrow because you have a press con. Can you honestly say that you can do that?
Her problem, whatever it may be, could be just as big. Or maybe not. Like I said, no one knows. So unless you do know, I think its just downright ridiculous to judge her like that.
Anyways, you guys got what you wanted and she got suspended for an entire year. I hope you're freakin happy.
ew... you're actually making it look like it's our fault . and if it was cancer she'd prolly go for a hiatus so the suspended thing isn't such a big deal, not to mention it was her fault.

where does it say she's suspended for a year?
if it's something tragic like cancer or some other legitimate reason, wouldn't her agency already tell the press to get people to sympathize for her? and there have been plenty of stars that go through hard times in the public eye without being pissy. especially not at a premiere of a movie.
i dunno, she's a pretty good actress and i actually like some of her work. i just wish she'd stop pissing people off and stick to acting. lord knows there are plenty of younger girls they can try to replace her with. _________________

Considering that she completely blew her performance in "Shinobi" (agreed, the movie sucked in general, had no much in common with anime/manga/novel, but butchering kickass Hotarubi like this, shame, real shame) and that she became famous with horribly cheesy parts, well, yeah... Whatever her reasons were, a pitiful little message on her website is hardly enough as an apology after such an unprofessional behavior. If I was in charge of her agency, I'd make a press conference and then, little girl, you apologize into the cameras with the deepest bow you ever made.
And what's the deal with that "Erika-sama"? Kuroki Hitomi, I'd even call "hime". Shinohara Ryoko, same. Amami Yuki, dito. Those are queens. They have experience and remarkable skills. But Sawajiri? Far too young, far too inexperienced to be even called "sama". Come again in 10 or 20 years, then we'll have a look. That is, if she doesn't get knocked up accidentally by her boyfriend who could be her father (guess she's trying to catch an older rich guy, just in case her career bombs?)
Not even going to comment on the rumors about her bitching at Nagasawa. If that's true, then she needs an attitude change. Boot camp helps with that.
Though, she reminded me a lot of Paris Hilton in that little video. Hair color, sunglasses, that extremely bored look on her face... Sorry, that's not what a pro should do.
In comparison, I watched the little ceremony where Kuriyama Chiaki got her award for Best Leatherist (pointless award, yes, but it's good publicity for her, so it's alright). That's how you do it. And after the ceremony she had time to give a little interview and joke a bit with the journalists. Yep, that's how it's done.

I never said I wanted her to quit acting or anything like that. I happen to think she's a pretty decent actress. I really enjoyed 1 Litre of Tears (although Taiyou no Uta is a little questionable).
But the fact that her attitude is questioned by many people and media really makes you wonder if she's like that in real life. She would not be criticized this harshly if these were all heresay and rumors. It had to come from somewhere. I honestly don't know what is fact or fiction, but I've seen other variety programs and her actions then were not exactly nice either. If she is going through a difficult time and is physically ill, then yea, I'm willing to cut her a little slack. But because her reputation for being snotty has already been established, many people aren't going to put up with that, no matter what the reasons are. _________________

Missy you are never going to win a fan-boy (-girl) over with reason and logic, so save your breathe. Sawajiri was good as Aya in 1 Litre but I haven't really seen her in anything else. She turned me off the minute she changed the kanji of her name - to be more assertive, she said. I take it an a sign of early stages of megalomania.
