Is this drama a remake of a 1980's Chiba Shinichi-Sanada Hiroyuki movie of the same name?

Hopefully it'll be better than that movie... Sweat

Quick question: The movie was based on the original book right? Was the book ever written in the English language?

I am such a freak. I joined this site just so I could post in the Satomi Hakkenden thread. I am a huge fan of the classic samurai story and I try to get my hands on everything related to it. Satomi Hakkenden was also made into a 13-episode anime if anyone is interested to know that.

The original text has never been translated into English. It took the author 28 years to write. It would take more than 28 years, try a lifetime, to translate all of the 180 chapters. I do know, however, that an American author named Donald O'Keefe translated one chapter and published it in an anthology of Japanese short stories.

I've just watched this. I must say that this is one magnificent production. The story is indeed exciting to follow. I just wish that this was made into a 30-40 episodes taiga drama, so they didn't rush things. I would want to know the detailed stories of each Inu warriors, or their detailed adventures when they were separated 2-2 or 3-3 ^_^ Really cool story!

The fighting scenes are breath-taking and just plain cool! Great choreography. I personally loved the first fight scene between Shino(Takki) and Aboshi(Tanabe Seiichi)!^^

My fave characters are Shino and Keno. And, wow...Takki fans must really enjoyed this^^ I'm not a Takki fan, but I was charmed with his kakkoi character and his kakkoi fight scenes. His fight scene with Genpachi(Oshio Manabu) on top of the roof, is... sugoi!!

Keno(Yamada Yu) is COOL!!! I love Yamada Yu's kakkoi fighting expressions, she really suits the role well. She should play a female warrior like Azumi someday...she's really good in this!!^^ I've seen her in some dramas like Orange Days(as the bitchy model) or Yume de Aimashou, she didnt catch my attention...until I watch her in this drama^^

Oh, I noticed Takki and Yamashita Shoon demonstrate their true Johnny's skills here. The camera will carefully shot or zoomed-in their faces whenever they do backflips or similar movements, to convinced the audience that they don't use stunts for these, heheh... hehe

The reason I want to watch this in the first place is Miho Kanno, I'm a fan of Miho^^ And she definitely did a fabulous job, portraying Tamazusa, the evil, cunning and disgusting woman^^ Love her acting! Although sometimes, I hate her and I felt she is so despicable always ruining people's happiness...haha, that is how great her acting is^^

I realized the intro story was altered. There was no dog. There was only Tamazusa's curse. Lord Satomi told his daughter, Fusehime, to escape coz of the dangerous situation. So she ran with the help of a Satomi warrior, Kanamari Daisuke (Watabe Atsuro), who is also Fusehime's love. Fusehime separated with him, ran into the forest, met the epirit of Tamazusa who told her, that she is pregnant with 8 litters already. A result of Tamazusa's curse, I think?

Oh, an unexpected twist of story,

Btw, Dousetsu and Shinbee's powers are really cool^^ I wish all of the other 6 dog warriors have these kind of powers ^_^

Great script, great casts' acting, great fighting scenes, great lovely musics, a great production!

Just 1 complain, it was only a 4 hours drama. I want one which cover the whole 181 chapters! hehe

Is NHK not allowed to produce fictional taiga dramas? Does it always has to be historical ones? Sad

I've just finished watching too and totally agree that Miho Kanno was a very convincing vindictive, evil temptress. 4 hours just seems too short to condense the story of so many characters. When Myouchin first appeared I was going ?!!??! since they didn't actually show how Tamazusa managed to manifest herself as Myouchin.

Yamada Yu's character is totally cool. She ranks as my fav warrior, and that scene really cracked me up too! hehe

Good fighting sequences (only gripe was the CGI for the fight between Genpachi and Shino) and a very riveting storyline! I would definitely love to see more of such dramas.

Aaaaagh!! I want to watch it! >_< But I think I'm going to wait for the subs ^^U I want to understand the story and the dialogues ^^U Hope someone kind enough makes subs soon >_<

I love taiga doramas, most of them are quite entertaining and very interesting. I like Nakama Yukie too, and Takki's acting abilities are improving quite much.
