I think I'd call the ending bittersweet? Can't think of the right word. I felt that though Ryoko's character triumphed in the end, gaining status and fulfilling her long-cherished dream, she felt hollow and lonely inside. Sato Koichi spurned her although she thought he'd provide an outlet for her to escape from Kemonomichi but he said he never had any intention to give everything up to be with her. The story just concludes with her saying that there's no turning back when one chooses this path and whether dead or alive, it is like being in hell. Kinda bleak.

Hmm, not a really positive ending... But life is like that too. Sweat

I wonder if Nyokei Kazoku will end the same way (don't tell me if you know).
