I finished the Saiyuuki fanvid. There were way too many scenes, so I decided to divide it into two different ones. I'm gonna upload another one in a week or so

I saw it with subs now, good story >u<
Where did you get it subtitled? I saw a good majority of it on TV in the normal, raw Japanese, but I'd like to download it subtitled (so I catch up on all the little plot bits and so I can show it to my boyfriend, who doesn't speak any Japanese).
I'm particularly looking for a torrent, because that's the easiest way to download. But anything would be fine!

I came across this video when looking at random music videos. I came across a song called 'Tabibito' by Takasugi Satomi and then really wanted to see the drama. Mostly because I saw Atsushi Ito there. Haha. But anyways I had a few questions:
1) Is this drama still on the air? How many episodes are there?
2) Is there a movie version? The music video I watched made it seem like there was.

There were 11 episodes and 1 special episode. Aired January-March 2006. So the drama is over already, but currently, there's a rerun on FujiTV, in the afternoon slot.

Yes, the movie premieres on July 14th in Japan. A sequel of the drama.

Yup, I think so.
Anyone has 'Tabibito' by Takasugi Satomi MP3?? Loved the song. This was actually originally a background music from Saiyuuki, the original soundtrack titled "Nirvana". And now it has become a song^^ _________________

In the occasion of Saiyuuki The Movie premiere on July 14th, there will be a Saiyuuki exhibition (together with HERO exhibit) in FujiTV building, Odaiba.
Opens on July 14th, closes on Sep 2nd. Everyday, 10 AM to 6 PM. Ticket fee is 1200yen.
There's "SAIYUUKI LAND" on the 22nd floor. And a special 3D Saiyuuki film, 8 mins 55 secs, shown on the basement floor. There's also a kintoun (flying cloud) ride attraction. (24th floor has HERO Street)
The movie guest stars are SMAP's Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, Koda Kumi (as Sanzo Hoshi, the priestess' doppelganger but the sexy version with mini skirt ), Neko Hiroshi, Tanihara Shosuke, and Mitani Koki, the famous comedy writer/director.
The crews in charge of special effects, are the crews in charge of NIHON CHINBOTSU special effects.
My frank opinion, that Saiyuuki series was enjoyable to watch, but lacks in the fighting choreography and special effects departements. I gave that series a 7.5 out of 10. So when I heard there's gonna be a movie. I was like, "Eh?? Is it really necessary??".
I don't expect much from the movie, but after I see some previews and the making. I think the movie would have alot higher quality than the series, esp. in the special effects departement. I don't know about the story. But this time, it really looks like a BIG SCALE movie.
But I can't say much yet. I'll say more, after I watch it^^ _________________

Judging from the pics, it looks like a lavish (and overdone) costume drama...
Seiyuki is just the current iteration of the legend of Songoku. It's been told countless times to Japanese children from a loooong time ago. The TV series seemed a little cheesy because NHK doesn't have a big budget but I expect the movie to have a lot more CGI and be a better production.
FYI, this is in addition to the original poster.
This is the Chinese fantasy "Hsi Yu Chi," where a stone monkey, Son-goku, possessing psychic power, goes off on an adventurous travel to India with Sanzohoshi while subjugating all kinds of creatures along the way.
2000 years ago in the inner land of China, a golden-colored monkey is born from a stone on top of the Mt. Kaka. The monkey is so wise and brave that he learns magic from a hermit, but because he goes on a rampage in front of the king of heaven, he is confined to a rock jail.
Some tens of years later, a priest of high virtue from Tong passes in front of the rock jail. The priest, Sanzohoshi, is ordered by the king to go to Tenjiku (India) to receive a valuable Buddhist Scripture. After being saved by Sanzohoshi, the monkey is re-named Son-goku, and decides to go to India accompanying Sanzohoshi.
On their way to India, Goku fights with the pig-faced Chohakkai and the Kappa creature Sagojo, and these enemies are converted to retainers of Sanzohoshi.
Sanzohoshi and the three wizards continue their strange and marvelous journey.

The movie premiere yesterday and it was... haha-INTERESTING^^
The special effects is better than the series, but some still... not awesome.
The interesting part is that the movie this time has the DRAGONBALL elements, LUPIN(RUPAN) elements, NARNIA/LoTR elements... lol!
Seriously, the movie contains lots of Dragonball stuff! This is not the chinese Xia You Ji adaptation. But its more of a Dragonball adaptation, instead! lol! xD
Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:
First, there was the Son Gokuu-Power Up. You know how Gokuu power up in the FujiTV series? His hair all standing up. There was like the 2nd stage of power-up, in the movie. His eyebrows turn blonde and all standing as well. This is like the Super-Saiyan 2 level?? xD
Second, the enemies and there's this bottle that can suck human in. But what's inside the bottle, looks alot like the view inside Majin Buu (Evil Bow)'s inside-body!! xD And the enemies here also the sucking bottle were actually from Dragonball! I don't think this part exist in the chinese Xia You Ji xD Or, is it?
Third, the CG-DRAGON in the last scene, LOOKS EXACTLY like the dragon in the Dragonball manga!! No kidding!!!
The LUPIN elements, Shingo reveal this in SmaStation, that the producer also got inspired from the LUPIN anime, the Lupin adventure group. Sagojo with Goemon characteristics, Rinrin the thief girl with Fujiko characteristics, etc. The adventure story type also kinda similar with Lupin.
Then the whole adventure type looks alot like Narnia and/or LoTR. There was this place covered with snow, and inside a house there's alot of weird stuffs. The owner is an old man that looks alot like Gandalf!
One thing I loved the most from the movie, the MUSICS are AWESOME^^
All in all, its quite an enjoyable, just for fun, movie. But, oh boy, how the Chinese will hate this movie to the core

The Saiyuuki series is produced by FujiTV, not NHK^^ _________________

Gomen, I thought it was a cheesy NHK production. FujiTV is usually better than that.
hmm... I dont think NHK always produce cheesy productions at all x) NHK always produce great taiga/samurai dramas and most of the time, it always surpass the 20% ratings.
Some of the modern drama are just as good, either. Like Machiben, and also Dondobare which surpass the 20% ratings too^^

Did they get permission to film in mainland China for the movie? I read there was such an uproar from the TV series last time that people were petitioning to ban Fuji from making any further remakes/adaptations on Chinese soil.

According to the Japanese press, the series was well received in Beijing and people there were interested in seeing the movie. Maybe you were mistaken?

I'm sure that's how they spin it in the Japanese press. However, it's is a totally different story w/ the Chinese press and the online forums. Remember, this is based on one of the 4 great classical novels of Chinese literature, and the Chinese don't take any butchering of their crown jewel lightly.

Well, it must have appealed to some Chinese people because the series was broadcast in Hong Kong and Singapore, cities with a large ethnic Chinese population.
Spin is done more by politicians than by the press. The press doesn't go out of its way to lie. It just withholds the truth on some occassions. ( After living outside of the U.S. for awhile, I think the U.S. press is a master in this art.)
