Yell Hitomi Kuroki!!! Lovey Eyes

Otousan is similar to Oyaji, both are family dramas but have different elements:
Otousan: a single father and 4 stubborn daughters.
Oyaji: a stubborn, old fashioned and mr-know-it-all dad, a sexy wife Lovey Eyes and their 3 rebellious children, hehe!

Both of them somewhat center on the theme of one of the descendants eventually taking over the family business which the dad runs.

In Oyaji it was the medical practice. The son was getting pressure to take over but he wanted to become a photographer. Eventually the daughter (Ryoko Hirosue) chose to take it over.

In Otousan it was the soba shop. It seemed designated for the second oldest daughter or whom she ever married. She stepped away and then realized it was really what she wanted to do.

Since there we some of the same actors/actresses it gets kind of confusing trying to remember Nut

Overall...I think I liked Oyaji better since Hitomi Kuroki was in that one Big Grin She didn't really play a "sexy" housewife. But she did play the role of a devoted housewife who is somewhat tired of her role and considers a fling with her long lost past ex-boyfriend.

I hope what I said doesn't spoil anything for anybody Bleah

Same here, even though Otousan has an all star cast I think it lacked some sort of chemistry...

I don't think Hitomi needs to "play" sexy, all she has to do is just stand there and she's sexy Bleah

I just finished this drama.

My Review: 8/10

I was turned off by this drama right away for numerous reasons. 1) It stars Tamura Masakazu, who I find annoying given my limited experience with him, 2) the show seemed almost identical to Oyaji, and 3) the plot was very boring in the first few episodes. I didnft find it terrible. It just seemed really dull.

Near the middle of the drama my opinion changed. There are two huge factors that differentiate this drama from Oyaji. One is the amazing set of characters that make up the fatherfs daughters, and the other are the actresses who play them.

Tamura aside, the casting was great. I love Iijima Naoko and her character ended up being my favourite. Although I found Nakatani Mikifs character a little boring, as an actress I was really impressed and look forward to watching more of her dramas. Ifve only ever enjoyed Hirosue Ryoko in Summer Snow, but I can now add this drama to her list. Fukada Kyoko maintained her pouty, talentless disposition, but she was the perfect spoiled brat and so I think she was appropriately class. If anything, shefs kawaii and can play the piano beautifully.

The plot was very cookie-cutter, but this doesnft matter. It was just fun to watch the characters be who they are and observe them interacting with each other. I can only imagine what it was like on set with such charismatic female talents.
