Hmm,

I don't remember the first dorama show I've watched... Sweat I still remember that one of my first doramas ever watched was Beach Boys and Itazura na Kiss.

The first dorama I've got on vcd was Kamisama. Takeshi looks real good in the dorama. Big Grin

I have a tendency to rewatching certain doramas and I can't get sick of it. Examples are "Hito ni Yasashiku", "Sorakara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi" and "Long Vacation". Emergency 24 hours I and II are good too... ^_^

3Peace...

I only started last year with GTO. Before that I was more into anime but was finding that too much anime is targeted at kids and not enough for older people. The jdorama that really got me hooked was Summer Snow. The first time I saw Hirosue Ryoko I didn't even know she was the main character (She doesn't look that hot at first glance) but her acting was really good. I really loved the series and continued with Long Vacation and Love Generation. Now I'm a hardcore jdorama addict with over 20 series. Its unfortunate that I've not been able to convert my friends to jdorama. Sad

It's Noriko Sakai's 'Heaven's Coin'

I was checking out some books at the neighborhood Border's store, when I came across a thick book, celebrating 75 years of "soap operas". The book was about two inches thick, chocked full of information on just about every U.S. daytime drama, and a few non-U.S. dramas as well. Along with the usual soaps like General Hospital, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, etc., only one Japanese drama was mentioned, and it turned out to be Heaven's Coins. So at least in the eyes of the American soap opera fanatic, Heaven's Coins is the standard de-facto among Japanese dramas.

For me, getting hooked on Jdoramas was an easy one... I was hooked on CBS soaps back in my high school and college days, especially As the World Turns. I've always had a soft spot for romance shows. I was a total Meg Ryan and Marissa Tomei fanatic back then, both ATWT alumnus.

BTW, the term "soap opera" was derived by the fact that every daytime drama during the 1950's and 60's was sponsored by one or more companies that produced soap products, such as Proctor & Gamble, among others.

Although I been watching J-Dramas for a long time, the one that brought me back to watching it non-stop for years was "Tokyo Love Story". Back then, getting J-Dramas was quite difficult unless you had a really good Japanese video rental store(s) but once I got on the Internet around 1994 and hooked up with people on the dorama ML, it really opened me up to finding other cool dramas.

Strawberry on the Shortcake for me...Rina Uchiyama is an angel...She and Ryoko Hirosue have a way of making a man's heart melt..

Since then the only other complete drama I've seen is Summer Snow which is also very good..

I'm downloading the last part of GTO right now and I'll be watching that series this weekend

Well actually i started around last year. It was a long holiday for me and I had nothing to do, so I picked up my Mom's (who's a big dorama fan then) Hero vcd and watched it. Boy was I hooked. The stories were really good. I followed up with other doramas like Love Generation and GTO (even better!) Now I think I'm a bigger dorama fan than my Mommy... Mr Green

Ok, enough with the lesbian references. The first drama that got me hooked was Konna Koi No Hanashi. Even though I saw it almost 6 years ago, I still remember what happened because it made such a lasting impression on me.

And that was the first time I'd ever seen Nanako-san. I can't say I was captivated at first, but I eventually fell for her (it's more of an acquired taste, I'd say). She's not the type of girl where her cuteness just jumps out at you. It's just...the shape of her body and the alluring feminine mystique that surrounds her movements (fellow Nanako fans will know what I'm talking about) eventually took me away.

Ironically enough, I didn't think Nanako was sexy until I watched GTO. In Yamato Nadeshiko those dresses made her look overstuffed hehe

First jdrama I've watched was GTO (mainly because of the anime) but the one that really got me hooked was Summer Snow. Smile

There's so many jdramas being released and its getting really hard to keep track of it all. I use to watch a series first before burning them, but now its - burn first, watch later... Wink
I ended up bidding on eBay for anything that she was in and spending way too much money getting Shotgun Marriage, Poppoya, Himitsu.
i watched poppoya!! that was sad Sad i cried so many times ehehehe

the first jdrama i watched was... a show called Forbidden Love. not the one with the boy teacher (oh wait, that one was called First Love anyway Sweat ), it was MUCH earlier than that and it had hikaru utada's First Love song as the theme!!! (that's when i started liking her too)

anyway, it had a girl named michi in it and she was a teacher and she liked this student and the teacher was pregnant, and they ended up running away together.. i think that's what happened... it was soooo sad.. sniff sniff

First drama was "Sugao no mama de" when I was an exchange student in Japan back in '93. I used to watch it after school with my host mom. Although it doesn't seem as well known around here, it is still one of my all time favorites.

Interestingly enough, my roommate, who grew up in Iran, mentioned that she loved watching Oshin on television as a child. I knew it was famous, but I didn't know it was quite that international....

If I remember correctly, the first drama that get me hooked with Jdorama is a ninja drama serial, then it's shogun, then samurai.... I was really obsessed with Ninjutsu at that moment, and may be a little bit now.....hehe
Then, with the long episodes drama such as Oshin and Kaoru.... back then in Malaysia Oshin is a phenomenon..... among the first modern Jdorama I watched is Chiaki, Moero Attack and does Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Gaban and Flashman counts....
Then Jdorama is lost again.... suddenly Aoi no Jidai caught my attention and that's the end of my sanity.... Tsuyoshi is so kakkoi as Ryu... but it was dubbed in Mandarin Shake Head 'horror'
The first Jdorama VCD I bought is Kindachi Shonen Jikembo....and then, Wakaba no Koro, and others...
The End of my first jdorama

I used to watch dramas every now and then. There were some that were interesting which kept me tuning in every week to watch it again. But it wasn't until I saw "Hoshi no Kinka" until I was hooked. After that, I just kept on looking to see if anything else would grab my attention as "Hoshi no Kinka" did. And, like many of you out there, I thought "GTO" was great but it wasn't until recently when I saw it.
I guess it's different for some who just "watch" dramas. It's not long until a really good one will hook you and keep your interest!

It also aired in Peru, but I didn't see it... State TV was so biased and unreliable, I preferred to watch tokusatsu instead...

The first dorama I ever caught a glimpse of was Long Vacation in 1996/1997. I still remember the exact scene, too (It was when Takuya and his friend were talkiing about the night before when Takuya met Minami's younger brother for the first time played by Yuataka). But, since the station wuld change the dates it showed LV, I would only catch it if I got lucky. Didn't even know it was Japanese at the time! Then a year later, a friend saw this really obscure show called FIVE and told me about it, I watched it, gave it a try, and it was good. That's technically the first coomplete J-Drama I saw, but I still wasn't hooked until I caught hold of one of that season's new dramas "Kamisama, Mou Sukoshi Dake" starring my favorite Asian actor at the time Kaneshiro Takeshi...was shocked he knew Japanese! Then I saw the dorama that squeezed out Kamisama for best dorama,"GTO",and that just cemented my love for it even more. 1998...that was good dorama year!
