Now, regarding dual citizenship, Japan does not allow dual citizenship, and requires an individual to rescind their original citizenship upon becoming a Japanese national. Several countries recognize this by having an official policy of simply NEVER PROCESSING the final parts of denying your birth citizenship. That way a (say for instance) person born in Canada can become Japanese and file all the necessary documents, but the Canadian authorities will simply never process your papers. Then you file the necessary "in process" documents and get your J citizenship. And remain Canadian, just in case

So, I just watched the first episode of Orange Days; and the "Stalker Girl" (Alisha) was rejected by Aida Shohei who's played by Narimiya Hiroki. I know he probably rejected her since she was a stalker girl. However, his explanation to his sister as to why he didn't go out with Alisha was because she was an OUTSIDER...that could mean she isn't Japanese, right? As well, the sister's response was like, "yeah I guess". So, I was just thinking that could possibly be a race issue. Anyone else?

However getting to the point of filing the papers for Japanese citizenship seems to the difficult. Even if you live there for a long, long time, they would prefer to keep you as a resident alien.

true..the point being is if you are not of Japanese blood...good f*ckin' luck trying to get citizenship cuz it ain't gonna happen...unless you do something superlative in addition to being there for a very looong time

dood there are ethnic koreans who've resided in Japan forever and still don't have citizenship...

it's obviously good to be educated on the whole process but don't think too much about it that far into the future and overwhelm yourself....

Your probably right. I don't really mind it, as long as I can be there it's fine with me. Besides, they can never keep this behavior up since (*sigh* also dont know the word for this one, but I'll try to explain) a lot of it's population is getting way too old and less children are born. I saw this recently on an economics channel here. Hmm, need some coffee.

yeah just make your plans and go for it...

i know what you are saying about the aging japanese population and low birth rate but that doesn't necessarily mean just because of it they would easily change their citzenship laws...quite the contrary it would probably make them cling ever more tightly to their cultural values and take measures to ensure their preservation...strick control of citizenship is naturally a first place to consider. they might alter the laws for alien workers though. but truthfully this isn't probably going to have an affect in the near futre or even the intermediate future....unless you wann wait 50 years or somthing to see how it pans out. ^_^

What about economic growth? Since their ever growing and very fast growing, there must be a lot of interest in stabalizing business' there from other place's of the world. I do think they need to adjust sometimes. Oh well, I could think of a lot of things, but all we can do is wait and hope (and eventually see what happends). Maybe I've gone a bit off-topic too. Sweat

Sorry for that though..

well the japanese economy actually hasn't grown that fast in the last 10 years or so...in fact perhaps only last year or this year has the japanese economy officially come out a very long recessionary period.

if you mean foreign businesses stablizing business in japan, despite some reforms the japanese economy is notoriously difficult to crack from an outsider's perspective. if you are referring to japanese businesses i think the trend will for japanese companies to continue to set up offices in foreign nations using foreign labor as the international economy continues to globalize...the japanese economy has always been an economy that fuels it's growth through exports not domestic consumption by it's native population.

but as you said adjustments will have to occur, i am just not confident those adjustments will occur via the inclusion of significantly more foreigners...at least not in our lifetime.

yeah we're off topic but it's an interesting discussion ^_^

edit: i'll continue relevant posts on this topic in the I'm Going to Japan thread, please go there G-Pjube Smile

'Alisha' was not the stalker girl, it was the model (played by Yamada Yu). You are probably right to think that Shohei wasn't sure about seeing Alisha because he thought she was an outsider (foreigner).

shohei slept with Arisa (yamada yu's character) because of her status and his self-esteem which he tied to her status as a famous model. his character dwells upon it and evolves from that point, emotionally.

i apologize profusely.... Bow Bow Bow trust me...it's not central to the plot i just figured if you knew who arisa was you were already at the point where you witnessed her character's interaction with shohei.

Shohei and Arisa already 'interacted' towards the end of episode 1 - a tongue-fencing session in the train station followed by horizonal combat in a motel (not actually shown on screen)... Naughty

indeed. that's why i DON'T understand why my discussion "spoiled" things for altec....altec's reaction engendered an apology but i'm still perplexed :headscratch:as you imply, thtl, their relationship was pretty obvious!
