Yeah I like Kudo Kankuro's work so I'll definitely watch this when it becomes available.

True, although some artists like to play safe. It looks like that is a bit of a departure from Aoi-chan's usual squeaky-clean image though.

Yes some artists never leave that "bubble."

If you've seen some of her other films she has departed from that image and taken on some characters that are rough around the edges like in the film Hatsukoi (2006).

No, unfortunately i've not seen much of her work, outside of Atsu-hime and Nana. But she always had a "cute" image to me Smile

Absolutely. You are spot on...don't get me wrong I believe your impression of her is the correct one that she is well-known for...the film Nana exemplifies that....I was just asserting that she has stepped out of her typecast on one or two occasions, unlike some entertainers who don't venture outside the "bubble."

I certainly appreciate cuteness but, for me, her best work
has been in movies when she goes serious.

Eureka, Hatsukoi, Synesthesia, Su-ki-da, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?"

I'm not saying these are all good movies but they all show Aoi's
range as an actress. I was especially impressed by her in Eureka playing
a young girl attempting to recover from a significant psychological
trauma.

And it sounds like I'm in the minority here in that I'm really enjoying
Atsu-hime.

Aoi chan can do no wrong. Whatever she is in is a must watch... she's on the same level as Kuninaka Ryoko now.... maybe a little higher even after her magnificent unequaled portrayal of Atsu Hime.
