I think the acting by the main girl is great, and this J-drama is getting the good ratings it deserves....

Much as I love Ms. Ueno (Nodame) I have to agree with you here - Shida Mirai has probably bagged 'Best Actress in a Drama' for 2006.

Excellent actor. Unfortunately for him he has a very distinctive look, making him perfect for those dark, evil roles. The only time he appeared 'human' was in "Tokyo Friends".

Are you referring to Miki's father (Namase Katsuhisa)? He's a seasoned actor although is forte is probably comedic roles. I thought he's doing a good job here, though.
Quote: | As in terms of this drama, it is a very debatable issue. First question, should a school blame the mother of her daughter being pregnant? Does the school have the right to blame the mother when school is to "educate" the kids? Or do parents have the responsibility in teaching their kids on what is right and what is wrong? Perhaps both ways. Or perhaps there is no person to blame. |
The school Miki attended, Seirin, was an elite girl's school. In Japan, and probably a lot of other countries, a school like that will be more interested in maintaining its reputation than helping a student to deal with sensitive problems. Blaming the parents is the norm (interesting in other high school dramas such as "Gokusen" the parents blame the school whenever there's a problem).
Quote: | And of course, abortion. But let's not go there. |
In another forum there was a post quoting abortion figures in Japan. It seems that a lot of teenagers did not use contraceptives, and ended using abortion as an alternative. Maybe the producer of this drama wanted to instill some Pro-Life views into the public.

Thanks for listening (or reading ) the rantings of an old guy.

So that's who he is. He's mixed-blood, isn't he? Something about him doesn't look full-blooded Japanese.
I want to give my opinions on the main character. After watching this, I'm starting to rethink my original opinion at the beginning when I said, if it was my daughter I would accept the pregnancy...shikata ga nai.
Now, I'm thinking...here you have a very stubborn, head-strong, precocious young girl who is not afraid to speak her mind, even to her parents. Typical, average 14 year old. She knew the risks when she first got with the boy and she ended up pregnant. As a typical teenager, still a child, if you tell her not to do something, she will rebel and do the opposite. So, everyone telling her to abort the child only makes her more determined to keep it. That's my opinion only.
Great drama, nevertheless. I'll continue to watch it to the end.

His name is actually 'Kitamura Kazuki'. You may have got him mixed up with 'Sawamura Ikki', leading actor in "Ame to Yume no Ato ni".

I like Ueno Juri too and she should be the distant 2nd.

He has become one of my recent favorite actors. And he does have that distinctive look and he's quite unique as well. I'm always a fan of uniqueness like Kubozuka Yosuke.

I'm referring to the main character's uncle. I believe he is one of the JichoBucho comedian people. I just laughed when he accidently cried. And as for Namase Katsuhisa, he has great facial expressions. He's a good fit for exaggeration and fun roles. That's what makes good supporting actors which I would love to some day.
And yes, I meant Kitamura Kazuki. Typo there. But I also do like Sawamura Ikki. I see him more in movies.
And lastly, 5th episode was good. It's nice to have a good different drama for once.

yea, i have been following and watching this one, even before the soft subs come out for each episode. And of course the subs make it more understandable and enjoyable, thanks to the subbers, timers.
I am really enjoying this j-drama, and the acting. The storyline is deep enough, and dramatic enough to maintain interest and intrigue. The main girl is a great actress and it shows.
