Second and Third pictures capture the character excellently! I wanna find a good picture of the "nodame mouth" - like in the anime - I think it's such a crucial part of her character in the series (and I would have liked to seen it more in the drama!)

I haven't watched the entire anime... I've watched a couple of episodes, but they didn't seem to resonate like the live action.

It was a different experience. I think it actually captured Nodame better in some ways (now I saw the anime first, so...) I think that animated character can capture somewhat admittedly odd expressions (albeit adorable) with greater consistency. I would definitely advise enjoying the anime to completion - it has a few different story arcs which enrich the experience.

I actually first watched the drama to see how they handled the ending. It's somewhat different than the feeling conveyed in the anime and actually in a different order. Without revealing spoilers, let's just say the structure was flipped.

So I gave Nodame to a my best friend, and then he gave it to his friend, who gave it to her sister.... I may be BMW's #1 missionary.

Hehe.. I too have given it to 3 friends and invited two who enjoyed the anime to check out the drama and, if nothing else, check out the two drama specials that came out this year. But then, I'm a person who loves to share Smile

Yep, haha. I think he watched it in about five days.

You know something really interesting.. she did 1 song in the first round in the anime.. but 3 in the other two rounds. It was actually a stark difference to how it felt.

There was also a whole story arc (a special music festival which "Milch" invited him to) which introded the Rising Star members to Chiaki prior to (the also beautiful) Kiyora's random introduction in the drama.

Yeah, it's actually quite a different beast. The live version captures the performance emotions much better, but there's something in the animation that lends itself to the superlatives that can be accomplished only with animation.

I actually argue that there's something really sad about the fact that most people don't appreciate animation as a serious medium. It can take liberties that simply cannot be taken with live animation or CG effects. Sometimes the use of abstract motion blurs or streaks can convey emotions that are completely unavailable to outward appearance.

Don't get me wrong, I like most of the anime I've seen over the years... Particularly stuff from Miyazaki Hayao (Princess Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service are terrific)... And it does typically outshine it's live action counterparts...

But from what I've seen, the anime versiononf Nodame is flat (no pun intended) compared to the live action...

I think it's somewhat less of a love story.. or it's more subtle - the live action is much more focused on Nodame and Chiaki's interaction, whereas perhaps the anime touches a little deeper on the music and performance aspect.

Not surprising... The live action stuff typically needs some kinda payoff.

The music selection and performances in the live action are wonderful... Nonpareil in any drama I've ever seen... Very involving and frequently moving.... The Rachmaninoff piece in Episode 5 in particular. Victory! Peace!

As someone with more than 25 gigs of classical music on his computer, I couldn't agree more. I actually had only heard the Brahms Symph. No. 1 only a few times prior to seeing the show and I love it now (though the show truncates it terribly!!). And I honestly can't hear Beethoven's 7th which choking up now!

I'm a big Rachmaninoff fan! And Liszt too...

I now refer to that as Nodame's Theme.... Victory! Peace!

And.. okay, if I had to be truly frank, I would argue that some of the recordings fell short (now.. maybe not from most applications), but I have some favorite recordings that just can't be beat! It's hard to compete against some of the best composers ever, in all fairness!
