Have just watched shinzanmono episode 2, the quality was good but I didn't really care for the characters or to find out who the killer is, Natsukawa Yui was good in this epsiode. The format/layout of this series is similar to Gonzo.
Abe Hiroshi is at his quirky, oddball best again: He's sorta like the lead character in the American drama, The Mentalist, mixed in with a touch of the Gluttonous Dectective from Kuitan...
The first 2/3 of the episode was quite good, but the latter third got a little too sentimental and smarmy...
Looking forward to Episode 2 with Abe reunited with Natsukawa Yui again... They're a great acting couple.
Episode 2 was even better than the first, with Abe doing his Columbo imitation of hovering/loitering around potential suspects... And it was great to see him bantering with Natsukawa Yui again.
There was that bit of sentimentality at the end like in Episode 1, but not nearly as smarmy and sugar-coated.

Yeah.
Don't know if you've noticed, but the subber seems to add a lot of (what I call) extraneous information to the subs... I think it probably slows down the subbing process and isn't really necessary.
oh yeah i notice that. sometimes, i do pause though
I never do... Like I said, it's extraneous information.
If you ever take a look at any professionally subtitled stuff (e.g. Criterion, Eclipse), they never do that... If the subs are worded properly, that info isn't ever necessary.

i would have to agree with you. except in japanese language some jokes are play on words or like two words sound the same and can get confused easily or something. I never get those jokes... _________________

Yeah, that stuff does get lost in translation... It used to bother me when I first starting watching dramas, but eventually I got over it.
