Remake of the 2007 series starring Maeda Atsuko from AKB48 as Ashiya Mizuki. It airs July this summer.
My question...why? It's only been 4 years since the first version, and that drama was already AMAZING.
The commercials are advertising the upcoming version using the same opening as the 2007 one with the Ikenai Taiyou song and the whole cast standing together, except their faces have question marks because the male roles haven't been casted yet for this one and Maeda Atsuko is in place of Horikita Maki.
I dunno...I'd rather they use a fresh new look instead at least--keep them separated. Maybe they are trying to get people excited like, "Hey! Hanakimi's back!" But for me, it's not... it's a completely different drama. I guess I have too much loyalty to the first; I have a feeling this new version is not going to be anywhere near as good. Who could ever beat Ikuta Toma as Nakatsu? And Maeda Atsuko is even less believable as a boy than Horikita Maki...
I guess I don't want to sound TOO negative though... maybe the new setting and storyline will be interesting, if anything.

I have a bad feeling about this remake. I like AKB48 (Maeda Atsuko is not one of my favourites though, but I don't have anything against her). No matter what everyone or the whole word says, I was really satisfied with Oguri Shun, Maki Horikita and Toma Ikuta. I think they did really good job and I enjoyed it despite all the randomness.
I really have my doubt for an idol acting in dramas, not many idols can pull of their roles well. Even so I'm looking forward for this drama.. hope I won't stop watching after first episode.
I think Atsuko is cute, and I liked her a lot on AKB48, BUT i will say they should have left this alone, and not made a sequel, and if they had to, should have kept the original actors/actress. I do think having a new cast, makes this a new drama without any continuation to it.

Wow that's extremly lazy! It looks like they are using the same costumes and sets ...
On the other hand, I believe it could work. Remember how successful Gokusen 2 and 3 were although it was the same story all over again. Also in teenage girls time, four years is a long time. The kids who watched this and swooned over the Ikemen of 2007 are now at university.
I won't be watching though ... have some Korean dramas and a string of Japanese movies to catch up with.

This is completely pointless.
I skipped through a few parts of the first episode and noticed that the actors are trying to act and look exactly like the original actors. They could have at least changed it up. As much as I love the Hana-kimi manga and original, I'm not going to watch this. No one can replace the original ikemen. xD

Agree with PaperCaged; the actors were trying and failing to be just like their original counterparts. Also the script seemed to be kinda just...thrown together. Couldn't finish the first episode
