Funniest thing happened yesterday while I was playing 3s (short-hand for Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike). My oppenent was Ken and I was Makoto and all the sudden the game shuts off! We turn to look at each other with funny looks on our faces. I manage to say with a straight face, "Uh, I think we broke the game..." He was telling me that it's a glitch that happens when Ken and Makoto try to throw each other and Ken's kick grab beats Makoto's. And they just took out the other 3s cabinet too so we couldn't continue. Pretty weird that they have version 1 at SVGL of all places. Couldn't really get on the CvS2 cabinents cuz Buktooth and Dr. B were beasting on both of them. Plus I had to give B a ride home which was pretty far. hehe

Marvel vs Capcom 2 Mr Green Another brainless fighting game! Chrono Cross-project expected the followin month, hopefully.

Exactly... PsP is the best thing to come to handhelds.... besides Nintedo has generally made "kiddy" like games while sony had the violent and more mature games...

I'd recommend getting the GBA right now. It's really cheap ($50 - 100, depending on the model), and you can play the games right now. PSP will cost $200+ and will have poor initial game support. It won't be available outside Japan until Q1 2005. Same with the DS.

Enjoy games now on GBA. You can get them cheap from eBay or wherever else. You can buy a DS or PSP later when you know which one have better games and have what you want it to do.

OH MAN... BAD NEWS DENNIS..... while river city ransome is hella cool.. i'm sad to say that there is no co-op mode... me and one of my friends tried FOR FRICKING EVER to get it to work.. only to find out that the only thing the link cable is for is to trade characters...we found that out to the screams of "ah that's f*ing gay dude! in the NES you could play 2 players WTF?" dissapointed indeed!

as for ur Q... i played the DS in E3 yeah its cool and allthe touch pad is killer... it still feels "like a gameboy" its hard to say, but none of the games looked nextgen they just looked and played like 3d gameboy games... the best game was gundamn seed..where the touch screen is the command controls and on the top screen you see the action in 3D ...or that shooter game... i forgot what it was called.... really good games.. but far below what most ppl were expecting....

when i got to see the PSP however (even though it didn't have anygames..only the spiderman trailer showing...) I WAS DUMBFOUNDED!... dude that thing looks like a mini plasma.... its better than anything handheld so far (you are supposably be able to play movies on it?!..how? i dunno...unless movies come out on VMS soon...:/)... and now that games have been shown (after E3.. why? why?) you can see for urself that nintendo has some catching up to do..(in the DS demo nintendo showed video of old 50 something ppl playing with the DS in their office...WHAT THE HECK?!?) anyway.. hey man go to a gaming site and look up "METAL GEAR: ACID" ..nothing and i mean NOTHING on the DS that i saw looks anywhere close to acid's graphics...HOLY COW A PORTABLE PS2

plus the psp is getting its own version of GRAN TURISMO 4..... yeah i'm sooo getting a PSP Sweat

Bah, PSP Rolling eyes That's exactly the type of response that Sony wants elicited from would be consumers hehe

PSP is gonna just be another friggin' handheld that goes down in the face of the insurmountable force of Nintendo. Its price tag of 300 greenbacks doesn't help none either, not to mention the total lack of any real original software. All of the titles proposed by Sony can be found on PS2 and done better there. Why would it make any sense to shell out the same price for a PSP game that can be found on PS2 and can be hooked up to a sound system and a TV/HDTV that's 19-64 inches?

Nintendo made a pretty good point at E3, the days when graphics made a difference are pretty much over. The next wave of consoles will have graphics that are pretty much indistinguishable from one another. (Just see the Unreal 3 engine, all the systems will be packing that kind of heat, so disputes over visuals are gonna be a moot point) Only gameplay will matter in the future, and Sony has been crankin' out the SAME sequels for many a year now, I mean, do we NEED a Jak 3, a Ratchet 3, a Gran Turismo 10, a... man the list is endless. Once graphics can NO longer be improved in the next gen, the gameplay is all that matters.

Sure PSP looks impressive now, but in one year, when PS3, Nintendo Revolution, and X Box 2 make their mark you won't want to be playing no PS2, NEVER MIND a portable PS2. With tthat in mind, at least Nintendo tried to innovate with DS, and I think they will have a bigger share of the market then PSP due to the price and the fact that Nintendo has always ruled the portable market, and is a trusted name. Even in recent interviews at E3, there was more positive response from developers toward DS then PSP.

So this is just my rebuttal coming from Nintendo's side; PSP is a great piece of hardware, and I'm sure it will be successful on some level, but at the same time, I'm sure it WILL have it's share of problems. Sony has never been one for quality engineering, the countless upside down Playstations and disc read error PS2s and broken minidisc players all back that up. I'm just afraid that the PSP will have it's share of problems on the hardware side, whereas with Gameboy haha, that thing's pretty much indestructable lol

Well, those are just my thoughts, and no, I have no real bias; as for systems, I've owned my fair share of Sony, Nintendo, and Sega consoles and have an MD player Mr Green

Catch you later,
Id

Hi guys,

Thanks for the info. I picked up a GBA SP old school version and that Mario Golf Advance, Advance Wars, Wario Ware and River City Ransom.

Btw, I know many of my friends picked up Prince of Tennis and Naruto in HK for like $5 but do you know of sites to get the import games pretty cheap?

Hmm... my list for must play GBA games are:

Metroid Fusion or Metroid Zero, (both must haves, pretty much the pinnacle of 2-D old school gaming)

Mario and Luigi Super Star Saga (A very unique and fun RPG, a great game from Nintendo, the two character dynamics of the battle system are awesome. A great game for those who are fans of Nintendo, as there are lots of Nintendo references!)

Castlevania Aria of Sorrow (If you liked Symphony of the Night this is a no brainer, Old school Castlevania hack and slash platforming with a new RPG like leveling up system)

Golden Sun (A great RPG with amazing production values)

Boktai (The idea of using the sun [as in going outside] to play this game is too cool Mr Green )

Earthbound Collection (When it comes out anyway, Earthbound is one of the most unique and fun RPG's ever)

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (Clock in 60 hours easy with this game)
Advance Wars (Be prepared to invest hours upon hours with this tactical sim)

The Legend of Zelda Four Swords (Comes with A Link to the Past, link up and play Zelda with up to FOUR players!)

Super Robot Wars (I don't know if this is out in the US or not, but it's one of the best import games that you ever get)

Ghouls and Ghosts (An old school classic brought to GBA, this is games back when there weren't things like expandable life bars, rocket launchers and car jacking.)

Super Mario Kart Advance (Okay, if you have even ONE friend with a GBA, this is such a no brainer, the best arcade style racer you can buy on GBA, madness ensues with more than two players)

Karnaaj Rally (The game with the tragically bad box art, this game is actually one of the best racing games on GBA, though you'd never know it looking at the box hehe )

Super Mario Bros. 3 aka Super Mario Advance 4 (The best Mario game on the old NES, this game is a must have. )

Sonic Advance 3: (This game is the best Sonic game on GBA, and it's a great platforming game, a throwback to the old Genesis days where Sonic was about dizzying speed and great level design.)

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong (A classic game that has been given a new spin. The same platforming elements from Donkey Kong to Donkey Kong 3 remain in here, but you can now make use of Mario's new abilities like the double jump, picking up enemies and the occasional hammer use. Lots of puzzle elements and platforming to pick your brain.)

Ultimate Card games (If , Spades, Bridge, Euchre, Cribbage, Gin, Rummy, Go Fish, Crazy Eights, Five Card Stud Poker, Hearts, Canasta, and Blackjack strike you as even vaguely fun, getting this game and linking up with friends is the best thing that will ever happen to you)

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire (Okay, so there have been a zillion incarnations of Pokemon made, but that doesn't stop this game from being an utter blast. Forcing you to walk around catching Pokemon and battling at different times (due to the internal clock) of day make this one a great addiction.)

Well, I think that'll keep you busy for awhile, have fun with your new GBA! Mr Green

Catch you later,
Id

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if any of you are competing at Evolution 2004 (www.evo2k.com) or attending G-Phoria (both events land on the final weekend of July)?

Also, how many of you on jdorama attended E3?

We are currently working on an article on the growth of video gaming events and so forth.

Ja mata.

I'll be entering Evo2k4 this year. A lot of people that have gone told me it's a great experience just meeting and playing so many different people. Hell, I'll go just to watch the Japanese top-players duke it out and the various exhibition matches like West Coast v. East Coast. Beaten hehe

With the advent of arcades dying out (which has been happening over the past few years), there need to be more events like this to keep the "scene" alive. I know that this is definetely a niche this day in age, but if companies start sponsoring events like this again, more people will become interested. I think online gaming has played a HUGE role on this. It basically made everyone so lazy (don't you just love technology?) that they don't need to leave the house to go to a local arcade. But then again, coin-op fighting games aren't as popular as they used to be compared to MMORPGs and FPS are today.
