I installed Azureus a few days ago and am downloading the Younger Man series which I got from D-Addict. I finsished downloading the first episode and I had to split the first half because it was 750Mb. I have downloaded and tried several programs including VCD Builder, FFMpeg, and MMT-EZ, none of which worked.
I am using an iMac with OS X. I know my DVD player is SVCD compatible because my Otousan VCDs play fine on it. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? Any help is greatly appreciated.
When I originally posted Younger Men on d-addicts a few months ago, I recall making a note that I tested the file on Mac OS X 10.2.x using Roxio Toast Titanium 5.0. The version is now up to 6.0. I'd suggest you get that software somehow to create the SVCDs. I've never tried any of the other tools you mentioned, so I can't help you with them. Otherwise, the next best thing to do is to have a Windows friend download the series and create CD-Rs for you using Nero Burning ROM, which I've also used to test the files.
One other thing to note... The torrent I originally posted on d-addicts were two MPEG-2 files. Someone may have merged the two files together somewhere down the line. With this in mind, it's quite possible that the method you used to split the file may have damaged the two pieces. Most CD-R burning software will choke on damaged MPEG-2 files. How would you scan the file for problems on Mac OS X, I wouldn't know.
And one more thing... Even if the file is 750MB, IT WILL FIT ON A 700MB CD-R when burned as a SVCD. So if the 750MB file is what you split into two, then you could have damaged it.

Thanks for you help. I ended up transfering the files to my Sony Vaio which has Nero on it. It played fine.
However, I downloaded a copy of Toast 6 Titanium, and recorded the first half of episode 1 with it, and that disc did not work on my dvd player.
Are there any major differences between creating a SVCD with Toast 6 Titanium and Nero? I would like to be able to use Toast, so I wouldn't have to transfer the files to my Vaio, which isn't hooked up to the internet. If not, that's fine too, I'm just glad that I got it working one way.

As far as burning SVCDs are concerned, I don't believe there is any difference if you burn with Nero or any other program. I myself authored all my SVCDs on NTI CD Maker and I have had no issues with them. I do know that one of my DVD players, made by Go Video! has support for SVCD playback but it only plays some SVCDs and others not, so it could just be your DVD players fault. But do becareful when authoring an SVCD or an XSVCD because there is a difference and some DVD players will not like them.

I apolgize before hand for the possibly stupid question, but here it is...
I'm trying to burn Younger Men episode 2 onto a CD-R using Toast 6 Titanium. When I attempt to burn it on SVCD setting, it says it is too large of a file. The size is 708 MB, and there is only 702 MB of space. How do I make it fit?
I would split it into 2 files, but Groink mentioned that it could damage the file.
So whats the best way to make it fit or am I just missing something really obvious?

the mpeg-2 is 708mb right? I dont think you're burning an SVCD since SVCD counts minutes and not mb. Make sure you're in SVCD mode.

I just now tried burning episode 2 on to SVCD on my eMac and Toast Titanium 6. Cannot! The problem is that Toast Titanium doesn't allow overburn. Nero and other Windows-based utilities does support overburn, so you'll need to use that platform. When I originally created episode 2 (and all the other episodes for that matter), i used TMPGEnc's CD-R 80min (VCD/SVCD) settings, and I set it to 99-percent of the disc's capacity. It didn't dawn on me at the time that one of the latest and popular software tools like Toast doesn't support overburn. I tried checking all of Toast's recorder settings, and there is no mention of anything regarding overburning.
Sorry for the troubles you're going through. When it comes to burning CDs and DVDs, Mac OS X sucks f**k!
They mention support for SVCD and overburning. It also uses the open source cdrdao drivers that you'll find in VCDEasy on the Windows platform. VCDEasy has saved my arse several times when Nero failed on me. So this FireStarter X product sounds really good!
