We're ARRESTING people for EATING candy bars and french fries? OK, some please tell me how this is cracking down on terrorism and juvenile crime? I really can't see any logic to this. If they made a new law at the station that you couldn't walk on the crack because you might break your mother's back, and you did it, they arrested you, sent you to jail for three hours.........but you were WARNED....would you seriously say, "Oh, well I was warned, it's my own fault?" C'mon, people, take a serious look at what they're handcuffing people for. You can't agree with EVERYTHING police officers say. I am I supposed assume that the food has been treated with chemical weapons--which is why the person is eating it and then going to covertly cough on unsuspecting passengers??? This is out of hand. Littering and pollution and unnecessary garbage are a problem....but in people's stomachs, I don't get the need to crack down on it. At all.

It is ridiculous. It is an overreaction.
But it has more to do with cops and security people having to write tickets, than worrying about the threat of someone chewing where they're not supposed to.
The Feds cut back on money for social services (cops, security, fire departments) saying the states, and down the line, the cities had to pay for everything themselves.
Then they put up these terror alerts that force the cities to put more cops, firefighters, and security people on the job.
The cities, and the states have to get the money to pay for them somewhere. And that money comes from writing tickets. (Santa forbid anyone raise taxes).
So the cops are pressured to write more tickets... and of course some dumbass is gonna go overboard.

The officer probably did not like her attitude. However she should respect the rules. Really it is not such an outrageous rule is it? Or perhaps IT IS, and they should all start eating in the train stations to protest.
We are a society full of rules. Every once in a while someone will enforce them.
I don't think it was written just because of the food. I looks like she was trying to take advantage of a perceived gray zone, assuming if she finished it as she was walking there wasn't anything they could do. But, she found out otherwise.

man, i ride those trains everyday to get to/from work and i see people carry their coffee into the train so i didn't think eating/drinking was that big of a deal. I guess i won't be eating on the train either (which i now sometimes (USED TO do). what prolly set that cop off is what she said.

I think perhaps they are both in the wrong. She probably had too much attitude and he took it too far.

Huh? The officer agreed that she finished her candy and threw the wrapper in the garbage, so what was his problem???
Sounds more like the cop abused his power as a law officer.
"The transit police officer asked for Willett's identification, but Willett kept walking. She said she was then frisked and handcuffed."
I wasn't just talking about the candy. Not only did she break the law (yeah, I know it's stupid but it's still a law right?), but she also ignored the police officer. Hello? Where I'm from (Earth) that's a big no-no. If she'd only stopped and provided identification when asked, she could've been on her merry little way in 5 minutes. Instead she got arrested, like she deserved.

And the other story about a 12-year being handuffed for eating a French fry??? Yeah, that kid was thinking she was above the law...
When we can't eat our Freedom Fries, that's when the terrorists have won. But no candy!

You're right. My bad.
But anyway you cut it, it's still a freaking stupid law. And I bet a lot of people got busted just for saying so in one way or another.
