The 8th annual Asian Film Festival at the 4 star theater, in San Francisco might be the last.

According to the S. F. Chron. the theater is scheduled to close down when its lease runs out in May.

This year they are running:

A 1960s 20 minute documentary on the Shaw Brothers.

The first film ever shown at the 4 Star, in 1964: "Lady General Hua Mulan" -- Ivy Ling Po. (based on the same story Disney used in their animated "Mulan".

The 1967 classic "One Armed Swordsman"

There's a retrospective of Filipino director Gil Portes's work.

And they are going to begin the fesitval with "Ju-On: The Grudge" on opening night, and end the festival by showing "Ju-On 2"

Other highlights:

"Lost in Time" HK 2003 Cecilia Cheung won the HK Film Award for Best Actress in this story of a mother who tries to take over her dead fiance's job as a minibus driver.

"2009: Lost Memories" South Korea, 2002. Sci Fi action. What would the world be like if Japan had continued to colonize Korea.

"Szechuan Concubine" Taiwan 1994. Fan Ho.

"Azumi" Japan 2003. The Chron reviewer loved Aya's work in this movie.

"The Macabre Case of Prom Pi Nam" Thailand 2003.

The 4 Star's owner Frank Lee is fighting to keep the theater open by creating an online petition, and by trying to get the San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation involved.

But as of right now, it does look like this will be the last Asian Film Festival held at the 4 Star.
