Yeah, was hard to watch. If Lithunia can pull off a sweep of this USA Dream Team (that's still what they are, for moniker purposes), I'd be VERY worried if I were an NBA player right now.
I mean, isn't the prospect of losing on the international level enough to get these players worried? NBA's recruiting straight from the high schools and they recruit internationally and the performance from these other teams is enough of an onus for owners to make full-court press (ah, see? A pun CAN be used appropriately ) 'round the planet. Owners might not even have to offer the extravagant salaries that have seemingly become obligatory in signing talent.
Can't say it enough, I'd be worried if I were an NBA player right now.
I like watching any Olympic sport involving a powerhouse U.S. team as I like to see the kicking of the bootay! When the regular NBA season comes along? I'd rather take bad-tasting medicine. I seriously don't know how a lot of ya'll can watch that junk.
Nothing fascinates me on the NBA courts like how it does for me on the collegiate level. Yeah, some of 'em are doing it for the million dollar plus contracts, but, they play hard doing it.
This all having been said, I'm with Dick V -- send the NBA championship team to the Olympics.
Then again, if THAT's done, when it comes time for future summer Olympic b-ball games, TeamUSA might have a chore getting players to play as olympians for the country that pays their salaries.
Yeah. I'd be VERY worried if I were an NBA player right now.
And THAT having been said:
USA!USA!USA!'S got, what? 40 + medals already? The MOST gold so far? AND IT AIN'T EVEN THE SECOND WEEK YET .
P.S.

Yeah, NBC aired his standing on the podium. Guy was so happy he was crying. First EVER gold for Sweden. Good, good. Your guys' anthem DOES sound like an "approaching of the Vikings" kinda' thing (that's meant as a compliment, by the way).

The two commentators talked about that a bit, and it appears that most of the international players don't have any interest in playing in the NBA... It appears that they're more concerned about just playing for their country and are paid enough that the NBA means nothing to them. Also, if they did jump to the NBA, they more than likely would end up on the pine rather than being a starter..... Money isn't everything to these guys.
Stacey Dragila is out: the 2000 gold medalist in the pole vault couldn't make her qualifying vault of 14+ feet... I think that up close and personal bio on her jinxed her.....

are we talking about the same country? sweden has taken gold medals in many olympics before..it was just the first gold medal in this olympics. and it was a girl, not a man who won the heptathlon

Synchronized swimming starts as of tomorrow The sad thing is the broadcasting service didn't confirm whether they would broadcast the synchronized events. The athletic events will start properly on Monday...
The Athletics <- Synchro = more viewers, favourin Too many events at the same, only the known sports in favour.
Ok, just found out Eurosport (3rd party sports channel) won't air the synchro events, they will air only a-one-hr highlights on Friday 28th of August at an inappropriate time, 1.45 am GMT Well, it's better than nothing.
My last message: Go Japan, go!!! Dethrone the Russians!
BTW Japanese marathon runner Mizuki Noguchi won the women's marathon! Congrats

Gotta agree with you, BMW. The "Dream Team" they ain't. It's obvious that this group of players are not a TEAM. Yeah, some of them are team players but not enough of them. You could get a group of no-name players and they'd play a hell of a lot better than what we have now. Personally, I'm rooting for them not to even make the medal round. That way, maybe the USOC will realize that we don't need a bunch of pros who're just interested in getting some face time on TV. Ok, done ranting for now.

Oh, yeah, hahah, I learned o' that WAY after; I certainly thought I heard the announcer say so. Though, he MIGHT have mentioned "first medal, which is also a first gold for Sweden" in that sport.
I guess you can see why Swedish 'lympic history ain't in my USA!USA!USA!
And WHILE we're correcting The Man, he himself'd like to admit that maybe that Viking comment should've been reserved for a Norwaywin instead. Whoops, up, side The Man's head.
U.S. women just dominating. Hahah. Osama B.L. must be tearing out the last of his grey hairs right about now, hahha.
Lastly, for now, I dunno, we'll see what happens -- NBA recruited (c'mon, we just HAVE to admit it) the Communist Yao's height alone for a potential margin (let's admit that too). THAT's not red book standard operating procedure. Is he still giving ALL his salary to "the People"? All those millions, eh?
SPEAKING of which . . . anybody catch the women's table tennis gold medal? Fresh off the heels of the Aliens vs. Predator "whoever wins, we lose" weekend, Zhang Yinin (China) vs. Hyang Mi Kim (you got it, NORTH Korea ).
The latter kept yelping out a statement after every point she earned. I sure wondered if it read, "for the Great Leader!" or "for the . . ." whatever. OK, lemme get this straight -- it's more of an effort to imagine Olive Oyl the size of Moby Dick than it is for North Koreans to be allowed to travel the world, yet, quite possibly their most fit citizens get to mingle 'round more cultures than are colors in a Crayola box every four years? I just keep wondering how the athletes get deprogrammed when they get back to Pyongyang; I have this strange feeling they're told something 'long the lines of "The Great Leader provided these games." No?
Woah. China can boast the world's strongest woman (weightlifting). Good going.

USA!USA!USA! women's softball team -- which translates into "The True U.S. Dream Team" in Greek -- defeats the Australian Oakland A's (well, at least that's what the Aussie's uniform seems to say) for the gold!
The ladies are RULING in these Athens 'lympics (which is ironic as the ancient version disallowed women from competition)!
USA with 65 medals thus far! Tied w/China for first place in golds!
I love wtaching the fencing and martial arts and the soccer rounds of the Olympics, and the gymnastics. I also watch the other events to if I happen upon them.

OMG, did anyone just see the men's high bar? That Nemov guy from Russia had the most outstanding performance and then what happens... he didn't even get a medal! The crowd booed so much that the commissioner forced the Malaysian and Canadian judge to redo their scores but it still didn't do justice. That's so messed up. Even the commentators were making a point that the performance deserves to be in the all time performances but in the end it didn't get a medal due to stupid judging
