The loss of offensive linemen Ron Stone and Derrick Deese to free agency, that I had posted earlier, significantly contributed to the overall poor performance of the offensive line, which resulted in QB's Dorsey and Rattay both taking injuries to their throwing shoulders on last Sunday. Rattay also had a mild concussion. Now without Newberry, the QB's are toast.
Did I mention that I hate 49er owner John York?
It's his wife's team, but he runs it... poorly.

I'm not gonna disagree with you about last week's O-Line performance for the Niners.
They blew.
But it wasn't for the loss of Deese or Stone.
Deese, who is too old, and too small, missed all of training camp for the Buccs due to injury... and got his butt whipped last Sunday by the Washington Redskins.
And Stone, who never played a healthy down of football for the Niners (unless you count his first preseason game as a Niner, where he tore up his elbow) was injured yet again, and missed all of training camp for the Raiders. The man has talent, but what's it worth if he can't stay healthy? And he can't stay healthy.
That said... losing Newberry is a nightmare. He's the best offensive lineman we've got. And Brock Gutierrez... well let's just say that Brock Gutierrez couldn't crack the Bengals starting line-up in six years of trying, and leave it at that.
And have you heard? The Niners are finally starting to publicly wonder if Kwame Harris will ever actually develop into a starting left tackle.
I wonder if it's time for an old fashioned Bobb McKittrick line shuffle?

It's going to be a long year for the 49ers. I will have to say Cedrick Wilson looked pretty sharp. If the Offensive line does not improve next years draft is going to be Round 1: QB, Round 2 QB, Round 4: QB... They will need them. This is going to cost the 49ers any hope of a running game. Should be a good idea to grab a few SF WR's in the Fantasy leagues. The 49ers are going to have to pass a lot to stay in the games. _________________

The Center in the OL calls the blocking schemes. Without Pro-Bowl Center Jeremy Newberry in there, the OL is going to go from a Swiss cheese OL to a crepe paper OL. Don't believe that the 49ers have anyone left on the OL with enough experience at calling blocking schemes, let alone another quality Center.
That much said, it's easier for an inexperienced OL to perform run blocking than it is for them to perform pass protection. Hence, it'd be wiser for them to call more runs and fewer passes until they learn to play together as a unit.

Elton,
If you can, I'd pull Wilson off my starting team for this week.
The report in the Chron this morning said he pulled up lame with a bad hammy yesterday, and he's only probable for the Saints game.
No Newberry.
A less than 100% Beasley.
Dorsey's first start.
Wilson hobbled.
Man, I wouldn't have any Niners on my fantasy team right now.
Yea that's what I read in the report as well. He's listed as probable though but I do have Deshaun Foster starting in my back field (kudos to stephen davis for getting hurt) so I don't think I'll be strapped for points. Thanks for the tip though Although what I'm most worried about is whether the game will be played since I know New Orlean's stadium is being used as a shelter. Are they moving the game or what's going to happen?

Since most of the storm gave N.O. a pass, the last report I read said the game would be played as scheduled in the dome.
Cool that's nice to know I think I'm going to go with your advice and start rod gardner in place of wilson this week. Probably a safer bet, but I'll keep him on my bench in case he becomes the next big WR
GAHHHH....first 2 weeks...both losses are because of mistakes ...first Rattay with the endzone INT and now Robertson with a fumble with 3 mins left in the game..and then that call that took Terry Jackson's rec was also bs...arghhhhh...

It's time for Jerry Rice to come home.
After watching Jerry's Games-with-a-catch streak end in the Raiders/Bills game it's pretty clear that A)the Raider's young receivers have come of age, and B) Jerry is no longer a prime target for the Raiders.
The Niners, on the other hand, could use a guy like Jerry to help train their talented, but young group of recievers. And it would finally be a good PR move for Niners management.
Signing Jerry to a one day contract next summer, so that he can retire as a Niner (the way Roger Craig did) would be okay. But how great would it be to see Jerry play his last dozen or so games in Red and Gold. How many disgruntled (but sentimental) Niner fans would head for the Stick, for a chance to see Jerry play one last time.
It's not like he'd cost a fortune.
And it's not like having the old guy around would keep the Niners from winning a Superbowl this year.
Jeez, with all the bad PR moves York and Donahue have made... is it too much to ask that they make just this one good one?

I'm glad someone brought up the Jerry Rice issue.
Sorry, eltinator -- specially since I'm kinda'-sorta' a Raiders fan; definitely a Ravens fan (why? Oh, the literary link, is why) -- and, Geezer, I just must needs be more direct and say that Raiders going get bachi for not throwing to Rice. You watch.

THROWTORICE. Thank you.
Well all good streaks come to an end eventually. I still remember when Cal Ripken sat out that one game to end his iron man streak. Although I would have liked to see Rice's streak end when he retired but oh well. Yea the Raiders do have a lot of talented receivers to step in and I honestly believe this should be Rice's last year. Another reason why I'm rooting for my team to get to the superbowl and give Rice another ring. But I was also very impressed with Rice's composure after the game and with the media. Rice is simply a class act. He went into the game expecting to get a catch and didn't due to stupid offensive play calling and you could tell he was angry but he just walked it off. Had that been Moss or Owens, those guys would have blasted their teams but Rice played it cool. No one will ever break his record, well at least probably not in my life time, but Jerry Rice the man is definately one cool guy for taking it so well.
And although Deshaun Foster ran me to a victory last weekend, eltinator's game ball goes to Jerry Rice

If the guy ain't open, no QB with half a mind is gonna throw him the ball.
Just like in last night's Vikes-Eagles game: Moss was double-covered the entire game... If anyone was gonna beat the Eagles, it wasn't gonna be Moss.
I think the man means to run more plays involving Rice. Usually Rice doesn't get double covered, that gets reserved for Porter if anyone on this Raider receiving squad. The thing is about the Raider's offense and the same goes for teams such as New England is that they spread the ball around a lot. There isn't just 1 or 2 guys who get catches. West coast offense at its best

No, no . . . perhaps I should have, uh, how do you say, "amplified" mine 'pinion. Though, I have a tough time a-talkin' 'bout football because, uh . . . it's FOOTBALL; I just like watching it. I understand the intricacies and all, kedo, I can't address much about the topic. 'Cept when it's a current sports controversy (i.e., 'lympics, Hamm, et al., hahah, remember THOSE fun times?), I've not much to say about sports, period. Action and all. When me and the pals are at mine house or theirs or at the sports bar, they're all a-talking 560 MPH 'bout what's going on w/the game on the TV in front of 'em, what happened weeks ago, years ago, what SHOULD happen next week.
I enjoy listening to their views, as I do all of ya'll's here on this thread. I will be quiet in the meantime. I like watching and all.
So, (and, I didn't specifically write all of the above to say the following) ESPN calls that a dream job? Yikes, I dunno how those guys do it.
P.S., anybody like that ESPN25 sports headlines series? I'm thinking of picking that up when it inevitably comes out on DVD, no? I really think the Kerrigan incident -- because it had everything; two rivals, crime, a great comeback from despair -- should've been ranked higher. Above the O.J. incident (which I DO NOT agree should've been ranked as # 2) or even the Kobe situation.
Wow, look at that. I've written much about sports.
