Good point. How many did Ichiro have at 154 games?

I think it was like 250 hits at the 154-game mark.

By the same token, how many did Bonds and McGwire and Sosa have at whatever was the number of games that Maris and Ruth hit their home run records?

I think Bonds hit over 60 before the 154-game mark, but not the other two... Ruth hit 60 in 154 games, and Maris hit 61 in 162 games, number 61 on the final day. That's when the asterisk first showed up... Maris always had that monkey on his back, poor guy.

PCM, you should check out Ken Burns' Baseball... It's a GREAT series. Big Grin

Yep, I've seen that. I've also been to Cooperstown (2002) and Canton (1993).

Cool.

I guess they're gonna have to make room for Ichiro's name in Cooperstown. Applaud

SF up 2-0! Hope it stays that way for the rest of the game. Go Lowry!

Btw Bradley got suspended for the rest of the year. I saw the footage of him throwing the water bottle. My question is, what the hec is he thinking?!?! Knowing he is in a playoff race and he has the nerve to pull an act like that with the incident with Texas and Oakland happening not too long ago. On top of that, wasn't that a home game? Crazy

1-for-2 in the fifth inning against Oakland.

That's 255 hits for the season. 3 to break the record with 4 games left (after today)...

Anybody got any ideas about Ishii? Last night he looked totally unhittable, but then sometimes, he looks like the worst pitcher in baseball!!! I've heard he was the same in Japan, it drives me crazy Bonk

Dodgers ran out of late inning magic against the Rockies, 4-1... Oh well.

I can't believe those stupid Angels are in first place... What happened Oakland???? Mad

Late news: Giants lose in the 10th, 4-3, to the Padres.

Magic Number is now 2..... hehe Applaud

Aww man this loss hurt a lot. Not only was it on 2 stupid errors but Mohr is probably done for the year and any playoffs as well. I do want to give credit to the Padres players for not going into the locker room with Mohr down in agony. They showed a lot of class out there and I always rag on these guys and I'll say it once and only once, the Padres deserve to be in the running for October. Anyways, tomorrow is a MUST win!

At this point, every game is a must win...

All the Dodgers have to do is win two of their final four games regardless of what SF does... They're in control of their destiny, as they say.

It's been tough being an A's fan the past few years. You see how much talent they have get your hopes up and yoink the rug is taken out from under you. They just can't seem to win when it counts. Sweat Grumble Shake Head

Me too! Were you and I the only two Socal residents who didn't like it when the Angels won the series a few years back?
