Jdramas vs Kdramas

Em...just want to do some research about this...You see...one of my friendz had been very crazy about Korean dramas...So I juz want to ask which is better? Korean drama or Japanese drama? And if the Korean drama is worth watching?

well, personally i like japanese dramas more than korean ones. but if u like dramas that are more soapy (ex. beautiful life) then korean dramas are right for you.

If I had to choose between the two types of dramas, its got to be Japanese dramas because to me, Korean dramas are really boring after you reach a certain chapter in a particular drama. The ones that I've seen so far are aimed at love and family life. There's more than the ones that I've mentioned above, but they are too much like a soap opera and if you're willing to sit through a 20-30 chapter dramas or 80-100+ chapter dramas, then Korean dramas are for you.

I like Japanese dramas because they don't last too long and they get to the point without having to take many chapters to explain what's happening (I mean it takes about several chapters before anything exciting ever happens in a Korean drama). I think your friend might be crazy for the stars in the shows because they have a lot of beautiful actor(s)/actress(es) that are shown in these dramas.

To sum up my point, you should try out at least a couple of dramas and see if you like them. If they appeal to you, then it might be worth watching. However, if you're not up to watching 20-100+ chapter dramas, then stay with Japanese dramas. Don't take my word for it, listen to what other's have to say! :-)

To add to my response, if you ever see a Korean show called 'The Romance', you'll see that eventhough the actors/actresses are good looking, the story drags on until near the end. The show ended around 25 chapters, but the show I saw before this one, called'I Love You, I Love You', lasted 45 chapters and I decided to skip most of the show because it was too boring to sit and watch.

Also, I bet you that if they were to make a show similar to 'Out' then the government might ban it because of its dark content. It's just like having to film a music video that shows some female's skin (like Park Ji Yoon's Adult Ceremony), school violence (like Dusty's School Bells), etc. So, most of the shows that they have in Korea are meant to be more light-hearted and balanced (religion-wise).

Well, this is what I think of Korean dramas and like I said, don't take my word for it!

heh, personally, it's still jdoramas for me...
find most of the korean dramas a little too draggy and predictable... also seems to me that the characters seem to a lot....

Well I think here are the differences:

Pace - K-drama is slower and longer (20, 32 or even longer) and it has more time to develop characters. J-drama has limited time to fully develop characters. (i.e. what happened to the suppoting roles etc.)

Direction - techniques are pretty much the same nowadays. K-drama caught up. There are all shot in movie style. More outdoor scene and less in set scenes etc..

Cast - Both have beautiful and skilled actors and actresses. A Must these days! To create followers...

Script -
- Jdrama is more straight forward. (i.e. Typical story line - one main theme with multiple love interests)

- Kdrama starts building with characters with kids and throw in family, friends and love interests. A lot more family scenes...

Music - They both have top notch singer and musican worked on the OST (Sound tracks and title songs)

korean dramas have more dead people.. seems like koreans like shows where there are more sad endings than happy ones.. and the story stretches from the first episode to the last about 30 episodes later.. unlike jap dramas where each episode is usually a story in itself.. i like j-dramas better.. at least you can remember the story better..

oh yeah.. and korean lead actors are usually old.. haha.. no offence but about 30 at least.. the only young actor in korea who i can think of as successful is won bin.. japanese leads are usually younger..

I still prefer Jdrama over Kdrama. Saw some of All about Eve and didn't like it at all. Then after that it was Glass Shoes but I also didn't like it. The appeal for Kdrama haven't grown on me yet. Jdramas can be cheesy at times but I'm more comfortable watching them for some reasons.

Omigod! Me and my fren argued over this before. Anyway, my take is on J-dorama definitely!!
I love the ups & down of J-d. Like when they're hilarious, i can laugh my head off and they could be touching at other times.
As for K-d...it's sad, sad and sad...all the way.

Don't get me wrong, i do like K-dorama but i won't watch it like all the time...it's too painful for me. But J-d on the other hand is very lively!! And i also don't mind watching the dramas again and again. It's something that i won't ever get sick off.

I think jdramas are still the best. The plot, development, presentation, acting and theme of jdramas is still unmatched. Korean shows are wayyy too draggy. I think they're better than hk and taiwan shows (which are draggy AND boring AND lame most of the time) but still i find their appeal limited mostly to eye candy. If you take away the pretty girls and cool guys in korean shows i guess there won't be much watchable content left.

Well, I think this is a pointless subject for discussion. This is a personal preferences. For myself, I like both! I have watched 105 Japanese Doramas and about 20 Korean dramas. I like them both. Just like Japanese dorama, Korean Drama has good ones and lousy ones. You just have to pick the great one to start with. This is the same in in any art form i.e. music, art and movie etc.. For example, people who loves Jazz could hate Rap music. These drama represents the local culture and their art form, in addition, they are geared for local TV audiance, not to mentioned specific age group! Don't forget, TV dramas (Soap opera) are originally produced for the housewife. You might be in the wrong targeted age group and that's why some of you could find some drama boring... Imagine your first few Japanese Doramas were bad ones and you decided to quit.... you will missed all the good ones like Long Vacation, GTO, Love Genaration, Beautiful Life etc.....

I think have assumption on Kdramas, never watched any. Heard that they are draggy and quite zzz too. Longer than Jdramas, +20 eps. Character developin takin so much time, not much for the rest.
Most of em are love stories.

Dunno, gotta watch Winter Sonata before deletin it. Munchin almost 13 GB from my HD! No sense in delete not even watchin it, waste of bw, time and effort.

Forgive me If I insulted Kdramas.

truetrue.. you know if you really did watch something really bad at the starting it will take you some time to start trusting jdramas again.. lucky for me.. the first vcd i bought was good - itazura na kiss!!
