thank you ur guys for your concern. I and some other fellow JDorama members like Michi, keii-kun, butetgra, bestfriend and their family members are ok because most of us does not live or on a holiday at the affected areas (the tragedy happened at North states of Peninsular Malaysia, mainly Pulau Pinang, Kedah, Perlis) and we all thank God for that.
This tragedy certainly changed my point of view that my country is safe from natural disasters and watching the news on how one by one victims' bodies (mostly children) were found is really painful. I still can't believe that this is real.
I feel sorry for those who lost their family members. I saw the local news on how a father loses 5 children from this tragedy. So sad
kndy-nt2099 - I don't know about others but I didn't feel the earthquakes (probably because I live at the Eastern part of Peninsular Malaysia) so watching the 8pm news that day and found out about the tragedy was really shocking and totally unbelievable

Thanks Xavio...
Yeah...I'm okie...coz it didn't hit my state. It basically hit Penang which is upper north.
The saddest thing is flipping the newspapers in the morning and looking at all the faces of people who has lost their loved ones. I don't know how to describe how i feel at the moment.
I woke up this morning and they said the death toll raised up to 33,000 and might still be raising.
Mother Nature really took back what we took from her. She wiped out the entire island of Phuket.
All i can say is...let's just pray that the death toll stop raising.

For those in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia or countires that felt it, do you feel earthquakes there often or was this the first time in your life? Where were you when it happened?
I live in California and I felt 4-6 but I can't imagine a 9.0 earthquake.

I've experienced relatively small earthquakes some years ago (around 2-3 times in my entire lifetime. I was in Yogyakarta and Jakarta. These cities are still in Java island.). Hopefully not big ones (offcourse small ones are not expected too) in the near future. _________________

Jakarta's okay? One of my friends is in Jakarta, haven't heard from her.

When the recent earthquake and tsunami happened, Jakarta didn't get any direct impact. (Aceh and North Sumatra located in Sumatra island, different island than Java island where Jakarta - my city - located).
But I red the prediction in the net that probably those dissasters will also happen in the Southern parts of Java island. Since Jakarta located in Northern part of Java island, I'm scared we're here will also getting the impact. (Hopefully that dissasters will not happen). _________________

Good to hear from you folks from this board in that part of East Asia. Thanks for letting the rest of us know you're OK.
The footage that keeps rolling on the news channels. Just . . . loss for words and all.
ZaZa and Juliana and to any/all that know them, I don't want to sound disingenuous or presumptuous -- I've not had the pleasure of PM'g you or discussing items with you on threads -- and anyone else from that part of East Asia we haven't heard, yeah, please give status.

Thanks God.
The friend I told before (Indonesian student from Aceh who studied in Malaysia) has just informed me that her family is safe and now staying at evacuation shelter.
She's still worrying about her family because the she doesn't know the precise condition of the loved ones. The aid for the surviving victims still limited since so many difficulties in the transportation and infrastructure to deliver the aid to the disaster location. (Many damages, many cut off roads, remote areas, etc). _________________

HeY.. i was from jakarta.. till now, Aceh still horrible...Many people lost their relatives and still searching for their family...including my close friend who came from aceh..His mother, brother, sister were still in Banda Aceh and till now he still doesnft know their conditionc Because the connection in d communication satelite was broken...So,it's hardly to contact our relatives..Beside that, the survivors still have to survive from the diseases, because of bad sanitation , and its hard to find clean water...Well, I wish 4 ur pray guys!!!...

Just got an e-mail back from a couple of my GF's buddies who were on vacation in Thailand. They were snorkeling, out a sea just off Phi Phi island at 9:45 AM, having just left their hotel on Patong Beach (Phuket) at 9AM by speedboat.
9:45 AM
Jumped into the water... boat guide receives a phone call from shore
9:50 AM
Boat guide orders everyone back into the boat ASAP... water suddenly recedes from under the boat until it is stuck in the sand... a 4 foot wave hits the boat and knocks everyone out... water level is higher now, the boat takes the passengers out to sea to wait.
12:00 PM
Police give okay for boats to return to Phuket
1:30 PM
Arrive back at Phuket dock, rushing for higher ground
1:40 PM
Waves start getting bigger, hitting beach with force
3:00 PM
On higher and safe ground, reports of thousands of dead bodies on Patong Beach
3:10 PM
Reports of 10 meter high waves presently hitting Patong Beach. Police not allowing anyone near the beach.
Additional news... Phuket airport badly damaged. Sustained 7 to 10 meter waves hit Patong Beach. Their hotel survived, but wooden structures collapsed and cars are everywhere in piles.

i'm glad someone started this thread on this forum. i started a similar one on d-addicts after i read about it in the news.
i really feel for you guys out in SE asia. i know that 9-11 was a huge shocker for us americans, but this tragedy is turning out to be almost 50 times worse (in terms of casualties). they say that the worst may be yet to come - due to the communicable diseases that are likely to start spreading.
i can only hope that the positive outcome of this will be a 'global warning system' to be initiated in the near future. i know that they mentioned (on cnn) that a meeting to discuus this type of system was already set for some time in feb2005.
