ah, booking early. that always helps. i remember there was a story of a couple that booked a hotel room in manhattan, NY in the 80s in order to prepare for the 2000 new year's there!

That actually worked?? It reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Newman was inviting people early for the Newmanium (millennium) celebration. I can't remember how far in advance he was doing it.

yup, actually, i may have been exaggerating it. it could have been in the LATE 80s, or early 90s. all i remember is that it was double-digit years in advance. i distinctly remember the story because i was watching the new year's celebration in NY, and they were discussing it along with the effect of Y2K problems (remember that?).

Ah yes, the Y2K problem. People were stocking up on canned goods cause they weren't sure if the power would go out when the rollover occurred.

I think it was either '97 or '98, since the show ended in '98... Smile

I remember the time of the Y2K problem, I was on a plane with my honey to Osaka because NO ONE wanted to fly. Thats OK, because I got tickets for $250 round trip from DC!!!

That's right. There was fear the planes would either drop from the sky or the traffic control towers would lose contact with the plane. $250 rt is an excellent buy. w00t! And you must have survived since you're here. Dancing

Being out in the west coast, it was prolly $150. (we flew NW at that time). But then again you guys are closer to the pacific rim so the normal tix price to JPN is so much cheaper than here in the east coast. At all times.

It's the time of the year that I can't have a good nap at the afternoon because children here in the Philippines play with firecrackers even before New Year's eve, usually starting on dec 28 Grumble . Now I'm beginning to realize how annoying I am to my neighbors when I was a child hehe .
