Any chance anyone has a copy of [Ep 40: ̗], on VHS or other media? I'd be grateful for any help.
Sorry, I don't myself. But the NHK site has episode summaries, and I have a gallery of images from Ep 40: ̗ (Heisuke's Departure). Click on the thumbnails twice to see full-size images. I posted that rather late, so if you want to see discussion from KSCi/KXLA viewers on the episode, you'll have to look at previous pages once you're at the gallery.

Note: Since KIKU is now doing their own subtitling, the translated, English name of the episode may be different.

Yoshitsune will follow Shinsengumi! in all geographical areas.

January 9 is the release date in Japan. Traditionally, the NHK Kouhaku is used to introduce the up-coming taiga drama (December 31), then about a week later the series start airing in Japan.

Usually, NHK taiga dramas start in California about two months later (March, translated by TV Japan). Hawaii, about three months later (April, translated by KIKU-TV {no longer by JNP}).

Yes, Yoshitsune should follow Shinsengumi!. But note that the Bay Area (KTSF) is on a different schedule than Southern California (KSCI).

I just moved to Honolulu from Los Angeles Mr Green . The viewers in LA (KSCI) have been shortchanged(screwed) U Suck by that stations airing of the Shinsengumi program. In Honolulu (KIKU) the program is about 40 minutes long followed by a program called Shinsengumi Travels. On KSCI the same episode is about 32 minutes. How is that possible!!! When KSCI first aired the program the programs were 40 minutes long and when the show got very popular the station began edditting the programs to 32 minutes and added more commercial for the hour program. I had copies of the KSCI program and was confused when I saw the KIKU program. At first, I thought the episodes were numbered differently between the stations, but I was wrong, KSCI was actually EDDITTING OUT about 8 minutes of each episopde. The change occured at about episode 15/16.

If you get a copy of Shinsengumi (2004), DO NOT get a copy from someone who recorded it from KSCI(LA).

Is it possible you are missing the last segment, which airs after 22:00? The program ends at about 22:10 each Saturday on KSCI.

Here's my timings of yesterdays episode, episode 45, uAv.
 1. 07:33 first segment
 2. 02:47 theme song
 3. 08:46 second segment
 4. 11:03 third segment
 5. 08:00 fourth segment
 6. 04:10 last segment
 7. 00:33 preview of next episode
 8. 01:29 VIgs
So, that's 44:31 total running time, with 39:42 of show and 4:49 of theme song, preview, and the travel segment. (I'm not bothering to count down to the exact fields, so each of the times above might be off a couple of seconds.)

[Edit: Just to check, I went back and counted fields in the fourth segment. It comes out to eight minutes and about 0.02 seconds.]

From what I see from your times for the program segments and the expanded list of program segments (Shinsengumi Travels) for the most recent program, I think that KSCI has started broadcasting the program as it should have been presented with an extra ten minutes of air time in their schedule (21:00 to 22:10 instead of 21:00 to 22:00). (The station was probably gcalled on their editingh by a sponsor which are mostly Japanese companies who surely have had their employees seeing the NHK broadcast.) The editing that I described occurred at about episode 15/16 and was still done at about episode 26 when I stopped recording in LA. All of the discrepant shows that I recorded were from start to end and usually did not have the usual narration at the beginning of the program. I was really surprized when I ran the KIKU program against the KSCI program using two DVD players started at a common position. The edditting contained scene/dialog omissions. KIKU in Honolulu broadcast the program twice a week and the time for the commercials between the program segments never exceeds three minutes. I think that times for KSCI is more like six minute!! As I mentioned before, the KSCI first programs were done properly until the program became popular and the station decided that they could edit out some stuff instead of increasing their program segment time when more sponsors wanted in.

That could well be. KSCI has had the extra ten minute segment for a while, but it hasn't always been there. I could probably find the episode number where they added the ten minute segment by going through the California drama board's Shinsengumi! thread if really interested.

I saw it last night on NHK (tuesday 8pm Philippine time). Although it is the continuation of the Shinsengumi series, it's more of a special episode than a sequel since it's just a single episode, but it lasted for almost 2 hours.

I'm sure subs will be made soon Thumbsup . I'm also waiting for the subs because I watched it raw on NHK, and with my limited knowledge in nihongo, I didn't understand most of the lines Bonk hehe . But for now, until the subs are not yet out, I won't be downloading it.

Probably nobody seed Shinsengumi series at BT now, then downloading will be just waste of time.
Sorry, I can't help you myself... but if you have a streamload account - post request in this topic http://www.jdorama.com/viewtopic.1963.htm and anyone will help you

I'm currently seeding the batch torrent of this taiga drama at d-addicts and there are 5 other people who are seeding too. Well, it's only natural that your download wouldn't be completed that fast because the batch torrent consist of 49 episodes Sweat . So, all I have to say is just be patient Smile

PostPosted: Thu Aug 10, 2006 3:30 pm    Post subject: Shinsengumi DVD Boxsets On Region 1 Or Region All w/Eng. Sub Reply with quote Back to top

I'm writing this petition to all those Taiga drama (Japanese Historical/Fiction) lovers who loved and cherished the 2004 Taiga Drama "Shinsengumi". I watched that 2 years ago and I fell deeply in love with the show. I loved the cast, the music and the acting. Of course not to forget to mention all the beautiful, pretty, gorgeous, hot and cute actresses in that show. I have a HUMONGOUS love for Asian culture, not just because I'm part Asian (Filipino/Irish/German). I just LOVE Asian culture, especially ASIAN GIRLS. I love 'em all. Shapes and sizes. Young or old. Just love ASIAN GIRLS! So anyway, to all the true Taiga-drama lovers. Hear my voice! I don't know if anyone else dared to write a petition. But I'm writing one now. So join my crusade and support my cause! And my cause is to put Shinsengumi DVDS with Eng. Sub. on either Region 1 or Region All. Join the revolution I like to call the Asian Invasion (NOT the British Invasion c.1960's). Who will join me?! WHO WILL JOIN MY CAUSE?! WHO WILL SUPPORT JAPANESE DRAMAS?! Asia! Asia! Asia! Asia! Asia! Asia! Asian Power!

Victory! Peace! http://nhkshinsengumi.tripod.com/
