Can't wait to see the 6th episode.. they explore up parts of the 18th volume.. maybe beyond (haven't read further than that).. Hiro is passed out in Hikari's bed and she tries to move him resulting in them falling on the ground and her trying to get him back up.. until she hugs him! ^^ (for those that wanted to explanation)
The subbed version is really good! kudos to Studio Oto for the very professionnal subs. ^^
Nermal, You've relieaved my cliff hangover SLIGHTLY!
... and give him a tight hug, he deserves it
Is there a lot of differences between the manga and the drama?
cause I'll probably never get around to reading it
Hmmm.. i am still dling Ep5! But getting confused becos I have not read the manga before! Is there any online website or synopsis on H2 manga to recommend?
I found this at JFan:
The Popular Sports Manga Finally Becomes a TV Drama on TBS
So, here's another drama based on a sports manga. If you saw Ueto Aya in "ACE o nerae" last winter, then you might have some idea of what to expect. H2 was a popular manga from the very popular artist, Adachi Mitsuru - most famous for "TOUCH" which was published from 1981 to '87. In 1992, he made "H2". There was also a 39-episode TV anime series in 1995. The drama stars Yamada Takayuki and Ishihara Satomi who are, perhaps, the two hottest teen drama stars currently in the business. Since it's based on an already-popular series and features already-popular actors, there is no doubt that this drama will be a hit.
Once again, I am going to have to begin with my usual apology and say that I never really read the manga or saw the anime. I can remember picking up a volume or two of the manga back when my Japanese level was still very low and never quite figured out much other than the fact that it's about baseball - as virtually all of Adachi's work is. I have, on the other hand, seen the anime versions of two of his other series - "TOUCH" and "Miyuki" - so it would be incorrect to say that I'm completely unfamiliar with his work. Adachi Mitsuru is required reading for all manga fans who like sports and romance. And if you don't like sports - only romance and comedy - there's always "Miyuki".
Now, for those who, like me, never read the manga, here's a basic rundown of the story.
Kunimi Hiro (Yamada) was a gifted baseball player in elementary and junior high school, known especially for his pitching. Unfortunately, before entering high school he and his teammate, Atsushi (Nakao) suffered injuries which permanently damaged Hiro's elbow and Atsushi's back, rendering them unable to play baseball ever again. Baseball is everything to these two, so they are, understandably, crushed by this unfortunate turn of events.
They both enter a high school which doesn't even have a baseball team. Atsushi works on the school paper, and Hiro is on the soccer team. He tries very hard to enjoy soccer. He's shown buying some soccer manga in one scene in order to make himself like it, but he doesn't display any of the same natural talent that he did for baseball, and in fact he's terrible at the game. He tries his best not to think about baseball, but he certainly isn't a happy child.
Koga Haruka (Ishihara) is the manager of the school's "baseball enjoyment club", which is the closest thing the school has to a baseball team. All of the members are horrible at baseball, their equipment is garbage, and their manager is clumsy. They can't find a team who will play against them for the final game of the graduating students, so Haruka desperately makes an agreement for them to have a baseball match against the soccer team.
Hiro quietly takes his place as catcher. No one at the school knows that he used to be a star baseball player. Since the soccer team also has Kine Ryuutarou (Ishigaki), who was also quite a good pitcher in elementary school, the soccer team makes fools of the "baseball enjoyment club".
However, partway through the game, Hiro can no longer stand to sit and play catcher. He says that the game is "an insult to the god of baseball," and quits the soccer team mid-game. He joins the "baseball enjoyment club" for the rest of the game as pitcher. Atsushi also puts away his camera and joins as well. Despite their injuries, they put on a good show and almost win the game - which they would have won if it weren't for a slip-up by another teammate at the end.
When word of their performance gets around, Hiro and Atsushi suddenly find themselves the most popular guys in school. Haruka begs them to join the "baseball enjoyment club", but they tell her about their injuries and why they can't play. Soon after, however, it is found that the doctor who originally diagnosed their injuries was a fraud. They get themselves checked by another doctor and find that Hiro's elbow and Atsushi's back are perfectly strong and healthy after all. (Talk about lawsuits!)
Their first impulse is to look into transferring to a different school where their friend and former teammate Tachibana Hideo (Tanaka) is now the star player. Instead, they suddenly get a weird idea and decide to join the "baseball enjoyment club" at their current school. Now they will attempt to turn the club into a full-fledged school-endorsed team and lead them to victory at the holy grail of high school baseball: the national championship at the "koushien" arena.
Actually, at the very beginning, it showed Hiro facing off against Hideo at the koushien, so it's pretty safe to say that they will get there by the last episode.
Like "ACE o nerae", this drama based on a sports manga is highly dramatized - even more so than your average TV drama. Of course, baseball is the most important thing in this world, and the players who have the natural ability are practically without flaw. What I enjoyed in "ACE o nerae" was watching Hiromi's change from being a beginner who can hardly play to becoming world champion. In this drama, Hiro is not a beginner, but rather a junior high star who makes a sudden return in high school. I doubt I'll enjoy it quite as much as I did "ACE o nerae", but I think it's going to be pretty entertaining as well. I'm definitely going to watch every episode of this drama.

The drama follows the big lines of the manga from what I can tell, only very few minor details are changed but nothing that really changes the story. Of course, the drama is a lot more rushed (18 volumes in 5-6 episodes). I know there is a group doing scnalations of the manga over the net but I can't remember which and where. I got them elsewhere and I'll I have are the first 18th volumes out of 34..
Thanks arkasai, yt, snell for the info! I can't get enough of H2!
Even tempted to get hold of the manga now...but 34 vol (japanese version) and 39 vol (chinese)! Erm...thinking twice I'll watch the show first then
Well for all you fans or keen watchers of H2 out there... I shall not provide any spoilers. I believe it's best that you find out the story yourself... I'll juz provide some overall guidelines to get H2 stuff...
I started off watching the anime first... 41 episodes in total... I got it from ILA a while back... But I think that site is down now but you can get it from boxtorrents. Refer to my previous threads in this forum. Posted the links there.
It was very slow in the beginning but things got interesting about 5 episodes down... (If you are pressed for time, juz skip the first 4... basically introducing Hiro...) The ending was left dangling in the end... I guess one may need the manga to fill up the gap... Anyway I haven't finished the whole series of the manga, only up to volume 29... (Volumes 1-18 are in English by MangaScreeners, the rest I have are in Chinese gotten off IRC) Have been trying to get the rest...
Btw the anime does not cover the whole complete manga... (forgot with volume it ended at)
There bound to be some differences between the manga, anime, and now the drama series due to time or space contraints. But the 4 main characters are pretty consistent in all three so won't be hard to follow.
Oh, this anime or manga series is pretty old, considering that it was first released in the 1980s. So dun be surprised with the lack of seeders. But with this drama series going on, I believe this will spark off more interest in the anime and manga as well...
Haha. If I forgot to mention in the previous threads, the author of this H2 series is Mitsuru Adachi. If you dun already know, H2 is Adachi's longest series.
Fans of Adachi get to see the genius in this H2 dorama version.
He makes cameo appearances in all episodes so far!!!
It's not hard to spot him. He's always wearing the same clothes,
dark blue top, sometimes light blue, shoulder length wig and always
being chased by a reporter
It's sooo funny when he appears
fallen in love with the lyrics of the theme song, no doubt this will be a big seller.
Lyrics for song [Over...] by K
Fragments of the dream we saw that day, was stretched across the sunset.
It feels as if youfre here. I look over my shoulders.
But everytime I only see the emptinessc. Oh, Oh
Even now, in my deep red memories you wear a gentle smile.
Its more painful than giving up. Ifve gotten use to loosing everything.
Ifd rather be beaten up than not try and regret.
Maybe tomorrow Ifll be stronger than the person I am today.
Ifm sure your smiling somewhere out there, even when I want to cry.
This scene was NG twice. First cut Satomi landed her lips on Yamada's nose.
Yamada swore it wasn't deliberate

The funny thing is.. from the drama.. you can see Hiro being interested in Haruka... while reading the manga.. not a lot of hinters point to that fact. Seriously in the manga, there's no doubt he likes Hikari.. but sometimes it's not really obvious he likes Haruka (but he still does.. it,s a love triangle isn't it?! XD).
In the drama, he likes them both.. it's shown a little more boviously.. but he can'T gety completely over his love for Hikari. Hikari did not pay attention to Hiro before since he was so short until middle school and then she was introduced to Tachibana. Once Hiro did grow up, then she started having feelings for him, realizing it was more than just brother/sister kind of love. (because they really acted liek brother and sister). Hiro on the other hand kind of always had a thing for Hikari but never really did say anything about it.
As for Haruka.. he likes her right now.. but not to the same extent he likes Hikari. ^^
It's obvious his always liked Hikari, since they grew up together.
Few scenes notably you can see the way he looks at her is different...
Like jealousy, when she was cheering Hideo on in ep1 and ep3,
when Hikari runs out of Hideo's room escaping the other guy.
The way he looks at her, like he really loves & cares about her dearly!!
As for Haruka, at first he only saw her as a friend and a clumsy girl.
He even begged for mercy from her clumsiness. See how she wrapped him
up like a mummy? And her trying to sew his top up?...
But he has slowly liked her since he accepts her dates... LOL
Hmmm...I have watched the eps again... I guess he really likes Hikari more than Haruka then. He seems to be amused by Haruka's clumsiness and touched by her concern for him more than really liking her. In Ep5, he says something like he is too late because Hiraki already has Hideo...

I dunno, this drama doesn't let Yamada show his full potential as the actor he has become...
It's a little too silly, the perfection seemed to have trailed off, unless the manga was like this, chaotic...but it's nice to watch still.... _________________
