That reminds me...did anyone ever watch a Japanese comedy sketch show called "Funky Dogs" (the one where they have blue cartoon dog versions of themselves) or something like that? I remember they did a spoof of Musashi where he basically killed everything in his path...office ladies, go players, tea drinkers, school kids, businessmen.... With the tea drinkers, he stopped to have some before upturnin the table and killing them all. it was funny as hell, I wish I could see that again.

Oh...it was a live action sketch comedy, I just made reference to the blue dogs because it's in the opening. Maybe they didn't show it in SoCal. It was on after the taiga dorama here. _________________

Takuan lectures Takezo about Otsu.
If memory serves, which it may not as I read Musashi around 20 years ago, the book said that takuan (a yellow pickled horseradish that Japanese eat) was invented and named after the priest Takuan.
Heck, I've got a jar of takuan in my refrigerator!

Can't say that I remember that... Time for a Google search, I suppose.

Ah, I remember where I've read that, it was on preface of the book.

one of my japanese sensei told me that the serial which made up the mushashi story line was a romanticized version of the real story in which there is no evidence of takuan, otsu nor matahachi...
there's even some historical evidence, which is not brought up by japanese national treasures officials, that musashi had eczema problems which explains why he never had his top knot on his head shaved. it may even explain why he never married and had children even in his later years...

Yep, that's what I heard as well... Yoshikawa Eiji's famous book on Musashi is supposedly a romanticized account of the famous swordsman...
There was supposed to be a more historically accurate book to be released by buyubooks.com in 2004, but it has yet to surface... The site has been saying "Coming Soon" for over a year now...

I have read some accounts where he was rather unkempt for whatever reason, which might've led to his eczema or other skin problems...
