i don't think i've ever watched 'scandal', but i watched red beard and throne of blood. both were really good movies reflecting moral issues.

if you get the chance, try and get 'tengoku to jigoku' (high & low). excellent murder mystery film!

Scandal must be a bootleg or from a different region, 'cause it isn't available in any form (DVD or tape) in the States.

I just watched Nobody Knows. What an excellent movie it was! Leaving me an unforgettable experience and very sad events the movie took place. The story is quite simple: The mother leaves her 4 children (the siblings have different fathers) behind and leaves the responsibility for the eldest son who is only 12 yo. Together they embark on a journey where the horizon lies is rather not clear.
I was really touched by the movie, a very sad yet powerfully told. The main actor, Yuya Yagira, did absolutely a splendid work portrayin the family's oldest son and big brother. He totally deserved the best actor's award at the Cannes! Must not forget the other actors in the sibling's roles.
I really can't find any words for recommendin this movie (in the moved state, loss at words), just see it!
So far the best movie I've seen this year!
After seeing the movie I had the urge to see the other movies directed by Nobody Knows' director. Hirokazu Koreeda here I come!

Izo
one word, HORRIBLE!!!! By far the worst movie of 2005! A dreadful experience! The movie had no story at all, just hack&slash every single person in the way, even the children, thruout the 2.5 hrs!!! You've prolly assumed I couldn't sit still thruout the movie, *ping pong* There were footages from WWII and genitalias in the movie which had nothing to do with the actual movie and not to mention 3 singin performances (5 mins each) during the movie, worked as an interval. Just avoid this movie at all cost! Miike, come on, you can do better than this! Just don't shoot yourself in the leg!

Umizaru
How does Top Gun in the underwater sound like? Mr Green
A group young men facing hardships and trials of becomin the sea and rescue divers. Only the strongest ones prevail! Ai Kato has never been so beautiful, she's becomin more beautiful as she ages In love

Swing Girls has been my most anticipated movie ever since I heard from the movie for the first time, it's finally out within a few weeks!!!! Can't go wrong from the director of WaterBoys and My Secret Cache hehe

i wasn't sure if i shoulda posted in the anime section, but i just got done watching 'lupin iii: castle of cagliostoro". (one of hayao miyazaki's earlier films). what a great movie! if i remember correctly, the film was made in 1979, which was quite surprising given that it was so entertaining, but not that corny.

while i was watching it, i couldn't help but think that this was what 'cowboy bebop' must be based off of. hehe

Watched Cha no Aji and Survive Style 5+ last night. Survive was a funny yet unique movie because the theme is "different". The music is super groovy. The casts are funny, Vinnie Jones in the movie adds more exhiliration. Tadanobu Asano Bow
Cha no Aji, weird and boring (a deadly combination), and quite absurd.

Yup! Gotta admit it's very entertainin to watch. I liked it a lot but not as much as WaterBoys. WaterBoys is my personal faves, I never laughed so much in a long time.I was feelin happy-go-lucky after seeing another movie by Shinobu Yaguchi.

Saw Crying out love, in the centre of the world last night. Just wonderin, does the movie differ from the tv series by being shortened to 2.5 hrs long? is that all? I haven't seen the tv series myself, thought if the movie had seen, then seeing the tv series wouldn't have been necessary.

Swing Girls out in a month!

i'v seen both of them, the movie was very good but the tv serie is actually 10 times beter.

Okay, I just watched a movie called:

Gusha no Bindume
aka
Gusha no Binzume
aka
The Bottled Fools
aka
Hellevator: The Bottled Fools

Written and directed by Hiroki Yamaguchi

Hummm, how to describe this one.

Take the Japanese love for unexplained gore and splatter.

Add the Japanese love of murderous ingenues in school girl outfits.

Put these elements in the hands of a young director who probably saw Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" one time too many...

And Bam! Hellevator!

For an indy gore fest, this one is a heck of a lot better, and a whole lot more interesting than most of the stuff coming out of Japan these days. But it's still just a gore fest.

Though I have to admit, the Elevator Operator (Yuuko Takarada) made me think doing a sequel to "Tokyo Elevator Girl" might not be a bad idea.

I finally saw the Japanese version of "Shall We Dance." It was a lot better than being forced to watch Richard Gere prance around with Jennifer Lopez.

BTW, has anyone seen "Kikujiro no Natsu" with Kitano Takehashi? That is a really strange, screwed up movie....
