But what very few American Catholics realize is that the denizens of the Vatican view American Catholics in much the same light.

As far as they're concerned, Americans only play at being Catholics, they (we) don't quite get it... and American Catholics are a problem.

I wonder if that makes us hamburger catholics?

Geez', my family knows a lot of Catholic priests.

Apparently, Americans are referred to, among other things, as "Cafeteria Catholics." Akin to being in a cafeteria, we pick and chose what parts of Catholicism to adhere.

We don't?

Easter is a miss spelling of the Angle (as in Anglo Saxon) fertility goddess. Her familiar was a bunny rabbit (as Witches had cats) and... well... the egg thing is sort of an easy symbol to figure out.

They only started calling it Easter when the King James version of the Bible was written, and the translators didn't want say that the time of year they were talking about was "Passover". (Bit too Jewish for King James.)

Well, I guess not on purpose...I don't think anyone's really celebrating an Angle goddess even if "the Idiot's Guide to English Passover" was named after her.

I am aware of large fragments of paganism that made it into Christian tradition, but that's a new one on me.

The Japanese were more like "oh...Jesus, we like him too, we'll add him to the myriad of gods...." Some thought Christianity was based around three gods because of the...uh...Trinity.

This was posted by Groink some time back. While he still looks out for the forum (giving helpful pointers during the hack attack) it doesn't look like he'll be a regular contributor in the short term. Sweat

Well, I may be doing something similar soon. The tutoring position I applied for didn't pan out (I didn't even sign the contract), but my mom's using her connections at the hospital she works to get me a paper-pushing job.

Ouch...that hurts.... Shameful Cry I really wanted to be like Musashi and make on my own.... hehe
