The hypocrital thing about that is (at least with my folks and grandparents) is that one of the things that drove them out of China was not the Japanese, but the Communists. Chinese Communists.
So why they blame the Japanese is beyond me.

Did you ever see "Farewell My Concubine"?
Leslie Cheung was my favorite HK actor. But anyway, yeah, the movie touches on that subject, the division of China over the years.
On an random note, I know a retired Catholic priest that fled China during the Cultural Revolution. He was a young attorney, the Catholic Church helped him escape.

Yep, jumped off a building.
He was distraught over his lover leaving him.

Has anyone considered the idea that this might be a case of the tail wagging the dog?
China and Japan are in a dispute over drilling rights.
Not a sexy topic. Not something the average Joe would get really worked up about.
But some would say (okay, I would say) that the Chinese government would want to stir up anti Japanese sentiment among the rank and file.
Granted, the Japanese handed them the issue by white washing their history books.
But think about it. How does what's printed in Japanese grammar school text books, become a major issue in China... without someone high up in China pushing it?
Having it seem like you've got a billion or so angry people behind you, all of them ready to do violence, would seem, to some, to be a pretty good bargaining tool to bring to the table.
The major issue here isn't the text books, or apologies. It's drilling rights. _________________ Manga is to Literature

Happy Lunchtime PC.
Ain't it a beautiful day?
The sun is shining, the birds are birding, and people are talking international politics.
I love this stuff. _________________ Manga is to Literature

Brilliant? I tell people that, but so far, you're the only one who's ever agreed.
Hence, you're my favorite.
As to watching the machinations of governments... it's always good to maintain a healthy dose of cynicism. _________________ Manga is to Literature

Well, when watching governments, or corporations, I try to do so by analyzing their real motives in terms of the oldest motive in the world:
Money
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
