Manny,

I've got Kagemusha on my netflix list as well. Should come in next week.

If no one else posts anyting before then, I'll let you know what I thought.

Got my copy a couple of weeks ago... Excellent movie.

Haven't had the chance to watch it again with the commentary track on, nor have I watched the stuff on the second disc, but it should be good. Smile

Thanks, guys. Kagemusha's selling SO well at the Tower Records down the street that it's in that store's top 20 bestselling discs right now, and, therefore, on sale -- I better go get my copy quick-like Victory! Peace! .

Kagemusha rocks, but make sure you get the uncut version, sometimes the battle at Nagashino in the end is cut.

Not to worry. If you buy the Criterion DVD, it's the full 180-minute release... And the picture is excellent. Big Grin

Good good...

It can be quite a hazzle to find the right one lol. Even with UK releases (no comment on German releases).

Yeah, there are some pretty crappy releases out there... People trying to cash in on the DVD craze and unsuspecting buyers...

Hrm.

Not sure if I'd call Kagemusha a DVD worth buying, at typical Japanese DVD prices ($35+).

Only thought it was okay, worth a rental. Head Scratch

Of course, I saw it so long ago, gosh... have forgotten.

I only used them once, and they didn't really impress me. Delivery took over three weeks (to Finland). I prefer using digitaleyesdvd. The price for Kagemusha is 27.96$ there. (haven't got the film yet, but I will when I get some money)

Well shipping overseas is different, I guess.

Their free shipping in the U.S. is a great deal.. It does take a bit longer, but patience is virtue. Big Grin

Saw "Dolls"

Save your money. Pull up a still photo of Miho Kanno, and stare at it for 90 minutes.

Hmm... that film is actually on the top of my shopping list. After watching Sonatine and Hana-Bi (a perfect movie) I can't wait to get more Takeshi Kitano movies.

Then don't get Zatoichi... It pales next to Katsu Shintaro's version.

I saw Zatoichi, and loved it. But I'll definitely watch some of the original films when I get more money. I was supposed to do that a long time ago, but at first I got hooked to Shaw Bros. films, then I decided to get all Wong Kar-Wai films (I'm still in the middle of that) and now I became a Kitano fan. Well, I got myself a summer job, so I should get enough money to introduce myself to Katsu Shintaro's films, soon.

Same here. Great movies. I haven't seen so many Shaw films yet. I have about 11 or 12 Celestial dvds, plus I've seen a couple of other movies, too. Mostly films by Lau Kar-Leung and Chang Cheh. Now I just ordered Clan of the White Lotus.

Lately I've been watching more japanese movies than hk flicks. I just saw 2LDK and Sekai no chûshin de, ai wo sakebu (haven't seen the TV show yet).
