hi all...
i've just gotten to enjoy sake recently, don't really know the drink well but so far haven't been disappointed with the recommendations by the restaurants / bars here in singapore. 1 which i tried recently and like is the Shichi Fukujin Tezukuri...sufficiently refreshing, not too dry and just fruity enough. one thing i realised though...good sake don't come cheap!

Have you guys tried Nigori sake? I was at Ranch99 and I saw it. Its the cloudy sake. It looked pretty interesting but I didn't end up getting it.
Nigori sake is cloudy because it is unfiltered. So basically, that "cloudy" stuff that you saw is mold. No intention of grossing you out, however that is true.
People do drink it and it is pretty popular and a relatively fast seller where I work at.
I've never tried it yet, but will one day. (When I get the nerve to) _________________

Yow......
well, yes, that IS true...it's mold in that it's yeast but it also has unfilitered rice particles and koji from the fermenting mixture.....thus giving the sake it's cloudy appearance.
funny story for drama nerds.......i was chillin' at this spot in hollywood with some friends and we were ordering something to drink and we ended up getting some nigorizake just cuz the name of it was "summer snow"...too bad they didn't have ryoko hirosue serve it to you

Dude! I used to drink Yebisu too! I first tried that beer in Japan in 2002. Then when I came back to Hawaii, I used to drink it too. Then, all of a sudden Daiei stopped selling it. Even at (one of the jobs) I work at now too. What a drag. The only beer we have from Japan now is Echigo. And those other bunk "Japanese wannabe" beers.
On the another hand, I drink Suntory Malts Beer. I've never checked whether or not it was brewed in Japan though. I think it probably is although I'm not sure...
i just had to throw this out...i went to the japanese market today and i finally found cans of asahi actually brewed IN JAPAN and not friekin' canada under license by molston's or what ever that shiet is called...i was so surprised i bought two cans....but then each can is ginormous...at approx 33 oz...it's like a japanese 40 oz.....but hell FINALLY i find a MAJOR japanese beer actually brewed and canned IN japan....hooray for the OG TRIPLE OG SHIET......not the wack ass canadian wannabe shiet
I duno, the Japanese beers aren't that bad. Russian ones are worse and I won't even start on American beer. I just quote Monty Python's!! "American beer is like making love in a canoe".
Though, of course, none is a match for German, Austrian and Czech beer.
Sake... I need to bug Naoko's mother over the one we had at a wedding last time I was there. It was GOOD.

my point wasn't that japanese beers are bad, but that most of the japanese beer available in north america is not actually brewed in japan but somewhere else like canada or california...and after drinking the genuine article i don't really approve of these non-japanese, japanese beers...
it's like being a fan of german beer and reading on said bottle that it's actually made in canada....i'm sure you wouldn't approve! i'm sure you understand the angst now

I try to try difference beers from different countries and the worst one I had by far was Vietnamese beer. It had an awful taste and it was carbonated too.

Dude!
I hope I find someplace here that sells a Japanese beer brewed in Japan and not those wanna-be Japanese beers that are brewed in Canada or by "AB".
Heh, maybe you can buy some and mail them to me? _________________

That's interesting. I would have expected to see more Japanese beer sold in Hawaii, with all of the Japanese tourists.

Nope. All I can find is the major Japanese brands of beer (ie: Asahi, Sapporo, Kirin Ichiban) brewed in Canada or America.
The only Japanese beer import I can find is Echigo. However, being an import, a 22oz or 24oz (I forgot which size it comes in) bottle retails at a whooping $3.49+tax (and on top of that, the state bottle tax $0.06).
Can't even get a buzz off of that. _________________
