HAHAHA, I actually used that for a month while my 107 was getting repaired. I liked it a lot but I did get a few bad burns from it. Didn't really get the same feel from it as I did the 107 so I looked into some reviews for 16x burners and seems like NEC has the best one out.

I'm shocked. I've been barking about my NEC although it's a much more ancient model. After 4 months it started to kick the bucket. It's still chugging along slowly but it's such a pain to get it to read disks that are perfectly fine and it won't burn at full speed Shameful Cry

Hahahaha, I think my 107 lasted almost 2000 burns so it'll definately be interesting to see how far this NEC goes. The nice thing about my 107 is that my 1 year warranty isn't up yet so this time instead of having them fix it, I'm going to force their asses to replace it! hehe hehe

Maybe try to sell it off or something, lol. If Pioneer does replace it for me then it would be like selling off a brand new 107 but Im sure the price has dropped rapidly. Still free stuff so it's good Big Grin

Critical Flaw Found in Firefox

Matthew Broersma, Techworld.com
Mon May 9,11:00 AM ET

Firefox has unpatched "extremely critical" security holes and exploit code is already circulating on the Net, security researchers have warned.

The two unpatched flaws in the Mozilla browser could allow an attacker to take control of your system.

A patch is expected shortly, but in the meantime users can protect themselves by switching off JavaScript. In addition, the Mozilla Foundation has now made the flaws effectively impossible to exploit by changes to the server-side download mechanism on the update.mozilla.org and addons.mozilla.org sites, according to security experts.

The flaws were confidentially reported to the Foundation on May 2, but by Saturday details had been leaked and were reported by several security organizations, including the French Security Incident Response Team (FrSIRT). Danish security firm Secunia marked the exploit as "extremely critical", its most serious rating, the first time it has given a Firefox flaw this rating.

In recent months Firefox has gained significant market share from Microsoft's Internet Explorer, partly because it is considered less vulnerable to attacks. However, industry observers have long warned that the browser is more secure partly because of its relatively small user base. As Firefox's profile grows, attackers will increasingly target the browser.

Two Vulnerabilities Found

The exploit, discovered by Paul of Greyhats Security Group and Michael "mikx" Krax, makes use of two separate vulnerabilities. An attacker could create a malicious page using frames and a JavaScript history flaw to make software installations appear to be coming from a "trusted" site. By default, Firefox allows software installations from update.mozilla.org and addons.mozilla.org, but users can add their own sites to this whitelist.

The second part of the exploit triggers software installation using an input verification bug in the "IconURL" parameter in the install mechanism. The effect is that a user could click on an icon and trigger the execution of malicious JavaScript code. Because the code is executed from the browser's user interface, it has the same privileges as the user running Firefox, according to researchers.

Mozilla Foundation said it has protected most users from the exploit by altering the software installation mechanism on its two whitelisted sites. However, users may be vulnerable if they have added other sites to the whitelist, it warned.

"We believe this means that users who have not added any additional sites to their software installation whitelist are no longer at risk," Mozilla Foundation said in a statement published on Mozillazine.org.

dunno if everyone's experiencing this .....
Sweat

There's a new lingering Trojan virus attacking major portals like MSN, Google and Yahoo (attaching itself in search query links and impersonating as a valid search website) when using these websites for search it's strongly advised you use a secure browser. As you know or may not know, we donft have the XP sp 2 implemented. This makes our systems very vulnerable to these attacks as we have been advised that this Microsoft update is incompatible with Accenture workstation configurations.

As a preventive measure, use secure browsers not vulnerable to these attacks when doing your web search. If you suspect you are infected do the following tests:

Download/install and run anti-spyware software that is available: I recommend these two a) Ad-Aware SE b) SpyBot 1.3 both are freeware and Have live updates
Run liveupdate and start a full system scan.
Stop using IE on in accessing the web (with the exception of internal websites such as the Accenture Portal). Use alternative browsers that are more secure e.g. FireFox v1.0.4, Mozilla or Opera. But even so these browsers are not infallible so take extra caution.
Do not trust labeled search links that easily. Read the actual URL. If it looks suspicious donft click it.

Mozilla Updates Firefox To Fix 'Highly Critical' Security Flaws

Elizabeth Millard, toptechnews.com
Thu May 12, 1:05 PM ET

The Mozilla Foundation has released a security update for its Firefox open-source browser after exploit code was made public for two "extremely critical" vulnerabilities.

Firefox 1.0.4 includes security fixes, as well as a correction for DHTML errors seen on some Web sites.

The security updates address two vulnerabilities that were rated as "extremely critical" by Danish security firm Secunia and involved cross-site scripting and remote-system-access flaws.

Big Hole

Secunia did not have any reported cases of the vulnerabilities being used by malicious hackers, but said that, when combined, the flaws could be exploited in several ways.

For example, one flaw with how the browser treated IFRAMEs and JavaScript could have allowed an attacker to steal cookie information from sites that had been visited by an unsuspecting user. The data could be used for identity theft or to get passwords.

Another vulnerability was in the IconURL parameter, which could allow an attacker to gain user privileges.

When it learned of the vulnerabilities, Mozilla acted quickly, changing its update Web service and advising users to disable JavaScript temporarily.

Patch Work

The update follows another Mozilla security update for Firefox, issued at the end of February.

In that update, Firefox 1.0.1, patches were put in place to block flaws with how the browser treated Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) as well as some flaws related to arbitrary code execution and cross-site scripting.

Unlike the current issues, however, the earlier problems were rated as only "moderately critical" to "not critical" by Mozilla.

Browser Bugs

The security issues seen recently with Firefox do not set the browser apart from others, said Secunia researcher Thomas Kristensen.

"Vulnerabilities appear with every browser, and Firefox isn't immune," he said. "You're talking about a multilayered, complex piece of technology. It's going to have bugs."

Mozilla has noted that it will evaluate security issues on an ongoing basis, with more security updates in the future when warranted. The group advises Firefox users to download the updated version from its site.

Maybe one of those third-party programs like Partition Magic can do it.
