Not only is it Boys' Day, but it's also Cinco de Mayo. So that means drinking today is a-okay. Beaten hehe

Nah, water and Gatorade work best.
Gotta rehydrate the next day since you spend the night before pissing out the water in your body.

Japan holiday/celebration.

Getting drunk on Boy's Day isn't a "tradition", but I'm taking the liberty of justifying myself. hehe

Yeah, you know, come to think of it, as the Boys' Day honored get a bit older, a bit more activity can result following the dinner or whatever; other activities in other parts of town, involving spirits and, in fact, MORE GIRLS THAN YOU CAN FIND ON GIRLS' DAY -- and, of course, I'm not talkin' mothers, aunties, and female cousins, if ya'll's know't I mean Applaud -- muhahahahahhahahah!!!!!!

Also, in my case, galfriends of my past did observe boys' day and man, they do recognize and honor the day quite well, I must say. Of course, I obliged when Girls' Day came around.

This all been said . . . when you're a kid? Boys' Day is a most rockin' time for boys (to be tautological about it) Rolly . Amen, good times, good times.

And, yeah, kinda' cool that Hawai'i gets a strong sense of Japan's golden week when Boys' Day rolls around.

sheesh i don't remember....but i think your cover charge entitled you to one drink.....

if you are serious about going to Tokyo, i STRONGLY recommend you purchase the TIMEOUT Guide to Tokyo...it's aimed at a younger crowd and doesn't merely focus on traditional Japan but on modern Japan, such as all the cool clubs, bars, restaurants, etc. i found it be a worthwhile read and a great travel companion in Japan

of course, try your major retailers such as barnes and nobles, borders, or whatever other megabook store you have near you....in the alternative you can purchase it online at amazon or other well known e-commerce websites that deals in books.

peace.

Hi, I'm going to Tokyo for a month in November. A friend of mine is wanting to go with me. I was wondering if anyone knows about Japan's stance on felons and misdemeanors. I remember reading in a book (it was Confucius Lives Next Door) that Japan denied admission into the country to a soccer player who had a felon on his record. My friend has a misdemeanor on his record, and as far as I know, he doesn't have a felon. Can anyone point me in the direction of Japan customs-related information? I know they would deny a visa to anyone with a felon, however, since we are staying less than 90 days, I'd assume there would be different regulations. My friend is unaware of the possibility of these restrictions, so I want to find out sooner rather than later.

I couldn't really find any links on this specific matter. But I wouldn't expect a problem for a misdemeanor. Of course that probably depends on how old the charge is and the nature. With the 90 day automatic visa for Americans there isn't really an application process I don't think, so hopefully there won't be a problem. When I went, I had a visa so when I got in, I was scanned in, stamped, and told to proceed in seconds....so my knowledge on the other process may be off Sweat I haven't gone in the regular way yet hehe

If your friend were to try to apply for a temp. visa for longer than 3 months, especially for teaching, there might be a problem. Who knows, maybe it wouldn't be as long as the company still agreed to sponsor. Maybe just a red flag? I do remember on the visa application there is a line asking about a criminal record. Although I don't really know what their policy is on that.

Maybe your local Japanese Consulate would know? Not sure where in California you are, but California has Consulate-General offices in both SF and LA.

I had 2 DUIs (a misdemeanor) on my record when I went to Japan. No problems whatsoever. Your friend should be fine. Perhaps that soccer dude got some heat because he had a felon and not a misdemeanor?
