Ey triky, I checked out Cyberjapan, it's so awesome u can just find any kind of club that fits u. I'm thinking about going to Lexington, since u can drink all u want for 35 euro and u can also get discount from the website, which brings it down to 25 euro. (if it really works, the receit is kind of vague). They play all kinds of genres so that should be okay. Now I'm actually going alone to japan, except for that there's also a girl from my class going and there's 3 days we can meet. I'm not sure if she'd like to go clubbing actually, so I'll have to ask her. Maybe I can meet some people in nagoya during homestay and drag them to tokyo _________________
The other JR train line that is useful in Tokyo is the Chuo (yellow or red) line. It runs essentially west-east through central Tokyo. It's very useful if you want to go to Akihabara from the Ikebukuro (and neighboring) stations. It would take much longer to use the Yamanote line.
thanks for the info, will try to keep that in mind.
(Hurray I got me tickets)
Thanks Triky for helping us so much with the information. I think of staying in Tokyo in a youth hostel (I'm still allowed in there , i'm 19). Does any of you have experience doing that in Japan?
cool, got your boarding pass, are you going to get a JR pass before you go, think it costed over $260, but it will be worth it cause i plan on going to Tokyo and to Kyoto, a round trip bullet train trip would cost $250 alone, the JR pass is unlimited for a week. Gotta get it before you go to Japan though. Youth Hostel, think they have curfews and shared bathrooms, but cheaper, personally i would rather pay more for a more comfortable place, but IMO. You are only 19, that is young, but have fun in Japan.
no worries, man! qilver it's my pleasure to help out a little. i'm by no means an "expert" but my friend and i did a lil research to try and capitalize on our time out there as effectively as possible. i was there for approximately two weeks. it wasn't enough. but being that it was my first time i had a blast...it had always been a dream of mine to go to japan so it was really fun. yeah the goth people and all others (i.e. the cosplay, short for "costume play" chicks) usually roll out on sundays at harajuku.
the cost was one reason why my friend and i didn't stay there a little longer, but then again we went all out and didn't try to stay at an inexpenisve place....we decided to pimp it and go for extreme luxury.
i ended up taking around 500 pix which i sifted thru and narrowed to about 300 or so decent ones. i had a digital camera...definitely take lots of pictures but remember to have fun...you're not working for national geographic... i only say that because i feel you have to balance your time taking pictures with the time spent ACTUALLY experiencing japan...i felt i could have takin double the amount of pictures but then i would have been stoppin' every 3.4 seconds to take a photo and not really enjoying the time in the company of a friend. you feel me? just my two cents worth.
like i said i went to a couple of night clubs but i wanted to party SO MUCH more! thing was i didn't wanna get so fuggin' wasted that i would wake up really late the next day feeling like garbarge because i was trying to recover from my drunken state! i didn't have enough time to waster recovering because there's so much to do and so lil' time as you mentioend. dayem tokyo is definitely the place to party though...i've partied all over the world but the amount of clubs bars women (hehe), etc is unreal.
btw, where and when you go out and night as far as clubs well depend on the night and what's crackin at a particular club...like i said read the cyberjapan club guide ...it's an invaluable. like i said you might want to try "vel farre" which is in roppongi and is tokyo's second largest club...or if you have the time you could go to "ageha" which is tokyo's largest club...the only problem is that it's located in odaiba which is way off the beaten path...not in the city center.
lastly, have you seen the tokyo urban nation documentaries post at d-addicts.com? two 30 minute segments about cool and funky tokyo...definitely worth a viewing
PEACE OUT.................
Dang, 2 weeks, that must've been a nice trip. Yeah, 500 pix, that is a lot. you must have had the time of your life party and sightseeing and meeting hot j-girls. Are they friendly? probably young, but who cares. I just want their pix and to take a pix with them in the picture.
There are some places that i want to check out for clubbing and bar hopping a little, Roponggi had i think a placed called "Fiesta" and some others for karaoke, but the trains don't operate past midnight and i wouldn't want to miss the last train, going to place it safe to avoid the capsule hotel, besides extra money wasted. Problem is, clubbing starts later, and around 10pm is when they pick up, but the last train runs probably around midnight, too bad not staying in Roponggi or Shibuya. My friend and I are staying in Shinagawa area, probably 20 min or so away. As far as Harajuku, i think we'd be lucky to get some goth girlie pix, cause it won't be a sunday when we go. Thanks for the info on Akihabara, I am curious to know what some of the directions were for a few of the places mentioned on the website, i couldn't understand the vague directions on a few of them. I am an Otaku and want to hit on the anime stores theres, and electronic stores there as well, something that i didn't get the chance to do my first time in Japan.
Yeah, i see your point, i don't want to be pointing and clicking my camera every breathing second, i wouldn't enjoy it, i want to balance the time there and try to see as much as i can but not over due it where we have to be in each place only for a short time. I also would like to take some video with my digicam, but i only have so much memory sticks.
Probably going to hit shinjuku/kabukicho area, just curious, do you know if they have any good hostess bars and such?
do you have pix posted up from your japan trip? any memorable places for you during that trip?

Glad you found it useful, super*. well when you get to tokyo put the information to good use and of course ask the locals too who will, i'm sure, have recommendations of their own. Have a great time!

Hmm I'm not the one u asked the question to but still, I heared that those hostess bars are so expensive that unless u make a good salary u better stay out of there. Meaning, I would never go there cause, (except for that I'm too young, and there's plenty of other opportunities for me to meet girls) I couldn't pay it.

Travelling is so much fun
Hehe thanks a lot Arranging all these things is getting me excited already, now I have to wait 2 months.. thats long This is actually the first time I'd ever cross the border without one of my parents LoL. One year ago my parents wouldn't let me go to Japan cause I didn't have any solo travel experience, but I guess being 1 year older made up for that. Plus that I also speak some japanese now _________________

wow, you can speak it, i am going to bring a phrase book along and use it a lot. It helps, i just hope that i can say things correctly. you have 2 months of preparations to make for your trip. It will be a memorable trip for you.

/going to sleep now
yeah, i am not sure if you would not, i was directing the question to @Tu_triky, since he has been there in japan before, hopefully he has some ideas of some hostess bars. I know they are expensive and you can buy them drinks at around 10,000 yen. I cannot afford anything like that, it is crazy. maybe lower it by a few zeros, 1000 yen maybe. But i think my friend and i just want to check out it out. I have not heard too much about these hostess bars and places like it. There is a million other things to do in japan as well. I have been looking at tourbooks a lot, and researching on the internet. I am trying to find out what i can do in the week i have in Japan. I have two weeks to prepare for it.

yeah, the travelling part is exciting, going to a different country and experiencing new things. The Cyber website did have a lot of clubs. Not sure how much clubbing we are going to do, since the last trains are around midnight and most clubs are either in Roppongi or Shibuya that i have read about from the tourbooks and we are staying in Shinagawa, probably 20-30 min by train. I figure most clubs get good around after 10pm, that is cutting it way too close, and i figure a few drinks and some good conversation would take awhile.
my trip is in less than 2 weeks, and there will be lots to see. Any thoughts on Tokyo/Kyoto, suggestions, personal japan stories? i'm all ears for this.

That's why you gotta commit for the long hall and stay out all nite! At least once. I mean, come on, if you go drinking at a bar and you're looking for a lively scene, it probably won't happen to get that way until later in the evening anyway...or if you go from barhopping from one place to another that will take time as well. But you're right, you definitely should plan how to get back, especially since you're stayin' in Shinagawa.

okay, since you're bent on tryin' to get some pictures, of females that is, and you're most likely going to shibuya i came across this post re: Shibuya 109 about those fashionistas who have a style all their own: like the kogyarus, manbas, etc....this is where some of them shop and where they can be found. READ:
Well, Shibuya is one of the main hotspots for young guys and gals to meet, hang out, eat, and shop. It's considered by many to be the fashion center of Japan. From my experience I would have to agree.
109 is often known in Japanese as ichi-maru-kyuu which means 1-0-9 repsectively. This is part of a department store called Marui. In Japan, space is difficult to come by for many stores, so they are often split up into different areas of the city. There are several Marui stores each with their own character in Shibuya. Shibuya 109 happens to be the place where all the trendy young girls shop until they drop.
All of the hit magazines like Cawaii, Egg, Happie, Popteen, etc that you see on this site are based on fashion displayed at Shibuya 109. In fact, many of the girls who work in the stores are featured in the magazines and often become shop idols. This attracts many young girls to shop and try to be like them.
Also, Shibuya 109 attracts many photographers, model scouts, adult scouts, etc looking for attractive young girls to recruit and make money. Again most of the models you see in the magazines frequent Shibuya 109. In addition, if you ever visit, especially at night, you will see many young guys dressed in black suits with wavy long hair trying to solicite and/or pick up young gals for all kinds of purposes.
I'd say for about 5 years, my wife and eye went to Shibuya almost every weekend.
Anyway, I can go on and on about all my experiences in that building. Incidentally, it's a hi-rise building with about 10-12 shopping floors. It will literally take you all day to shop the entire building.
Finally, I must say that if you are attracted to Japanese girls, that a stroll through the floors of Shibuya 109 are an absolute MUST! No doubt about it.
...make sure you put Shibuya 109 on your itinerary and my goodness, don't forget to bring your camera!

thanks for the info. yeah, i was planning on hitting on shibuya '109, not sure how long though, sounds like a huge place. So, when you went, did you take a lot of pix inside and outside the Shibuya 109'?? the mecca of all hot young j-girls, it seems. Did you ask a lot of them for the picture while upclose? of did you just snap away even closeup? I am sure some would mind if you didn't ask right? Well, of course i want to take a lot of pix while in japan, scenery, food, odd stuff in japan, and of course the hot girls of japan.
On clubbing, not sure if that is going to be even possible, going to stay in shinagawa, which is ??minutes from Ropoggi/Shibuya areas???
and clubs don't start up kicking until late, so that wouldn't work out since the last trains go probably till midnight. But still wouldn't mind checking out the scene. Which ones did you go to?

i didn't go INTO shibuya 109....but i kicked it in shibuya, especially around shibuya crossing, to eat and drink a few times...you know where you leave the train station and you see hachiko...which you said you saw already. that's one thing i didn't do very much of...shopping...i only went to one dept store in ginza....i didn't have enought time to shop. i won't lie...i didn't go around taking pictures of chicks, man. the girls we met we're at clubs and such and i wasn't goin' around carrying my camera snapping photos in there...but knowing you want some pics i recommend that you go to shibuya 109...dude you don't have to spend the whole day in there...just an hour or so and i would think you would be satisfied.

about that clubbing part... it seems to be kind of difficult to go out, then after just go home neatly at 4'o-clock. So my guess I'd be clubbing all night... hanging in bars after the clubs close or maybe stay at someones house if they live close. I'm planning to meet people to go clubbing with anyhow, so they should have some idea how to spend the nihgt too right _________________

yeah, i'd figure an hour s/b enough to view the area and check out the store, i am not too much into shopping for clothes in japan, maybe just a little. there is just so much to see in japan besides shibuya 109 building. Last time i went, i didn't bother to see the building until after the trip when i saw it on the postcard, must've overlooked it cause i took a pix next to the hachiko dog statue in shibuya.

yeah, one reason why i might not go clubbing since the trains i hear close down after midnight, and wouldn't want to be stuck in a place where my hotel is not at. I am staying in shinagawa, not sure how far that is by train from Roppongi/Shibuya area. That seems where the nightlife and young girls hang out. I am guessing it'll be a 20 min train ride away. They have capsure hotels near stations for people that get stuck and stranded after hours. Your friends hopefully will have a plan, cause from what i hear, the clubs don't get lively until real late. Otherwise you can take a taxi, but hear it is very very expensive, much more than a train ride, probably not worth it at all. It would probably be best to stay in the same town, like Roponggi/Shibuya areas, within walking distance of the clubs.

yeah you're right the trains stop running at midnight, some around 1 am so unless you're going to stay out for the long haul, be prepared for an expensive cab ride or get crunked until the sun comes up and then take the first train home.
my 2 cents on this subject...is plan wisely and if you're only there for a short period of time, you might wanna pass on stayin out until the wee hours...but if you're going to be there for 2 weeks or more...you gotta party all night at LEAST ONCE.
just hook up with ladies and party...i'm sure you wouldn't want to go home early after that, kids.
