that's scary, thought those things are suppose to be somewhat safe, must've been a major shaker, hope those things happen rarely. going in less than a week.
u'll be fine, man! just remember to get some oft-spoken pix of japanese life, ladies, and landmarks....not necessarily in that order

the '94 earthquake, i was up in norcal, believed that the '94 one was in Northridge, LA area. I heard it on the news. I was in the '89 bay area shakers, that rocked the whole area, and scared me lots.
Japan gets them here and there, last visit, didn't feel anything, i am sure they get the small ones that people don't really feel there, it's just the bigger ones that do. How often? not really sure, just hope that i don't feel any and i can just focus on enjoying my trip.
btw I looked at that Cheap hotel, I need to look again to get the number to call. But it does not look bad.. Rooms are a bit "basic" but not bad.. If I get the non Western style room, would i be sleeping on something other then just sleeping on the floor?

yeah, not going to worry about the shakers while in japan...
got another memory stick for my digicam, potentially i can take close to 700 pix/some video while in Japan. Yeah looking forward to the trip, just hope i can get some upclose pix of j-girls...
how do you say again, "is it ok if i take your picture" in japanese again?
I hope that i am not being too rude or inconvenient to them by saying that statement.

if you get a "non" western room, like at a Ryokan, from what i have read in japanese tourbooks, you will be staying in a room that has a futon, instead of a bed with a mattress. Used to have a futon in my place, it is still very comfortable. Yeah, rooms in Japan tend to be quite small and not spacious, the nicer hotels might be a bit bigger and more elegant, not sure if it is worth the extra $$$$, unless you can find a good four star hotel in Tokyo at a good price, i got lucky though and found one, in Shinagawa.
BTW: sent you a "pm" of a pix of Yu Yamada and info where you can find more cm's /pix of her.

this is not a rude way to ask...trust me...i wouldn't teach you to speak rudely......i think that would be counterproductive to your goal, right!

syashin torasete morate ii desu ka?
much thanks...
just wondering cause i never approached any J-girl before and asked..
i would imagine that maybe some would not mind the attention, while perhaps others may ignore or just refuse any pix, what are some of your experiences or people you knew that took pix of j-girls?

my bad....dude..just forgot.
anyhow, thanks. i am sure i will have lots of fun. my friend wants to go clubbin' in Roponggi, not sure cause the trains shut down after 1am, and it will be cutting it close. But wouldn't mind checking out the girlies and the scene in Roponggi.

it's okay...i was just joking...all in good fun. hmmm...well i remember you voiced your concern about staying out late past a certain hour due to the closure of the train stations but if you can somehow arrange to go clubbing i'm sure you will have a good time, and perhaps be able to avail yourself of some good photo opportunities with the chicas

booze, beats, bevy of women = better photo ops.
i'll be sure to get some photo opportunities with the chix..
was reading in one of the tourbooks, i guess they are stringent on what can go thru at customs, anything slightly naughty might be confiscated, but what about rated PG-13 photobooks of j-idols, i'd say that should be ok to go thru, but more risque stuff? i dunno, it's a toss up.

Those books are okay. It's the hardcore stuff that customs will not admit. If it's shows anything (not pixellated) beyond breasts, then it's questionable.
On a related note, be careful about which medication you bring into Japan. Some ingredients allowed here are banned by their substance control act. I remember there was something in Vicks they didn't accept. It was the aerosol version, though.

Good points. You don't want to be detained from an honest mistake... That would screw up your trip royally.

yeah, i was fully aware that hardcore items would not be permissable and are very questionable, but not pixellated?? you mean risque anime girls?
as far as medication, what about prescriptive drugs, over the counter drugs for highblood pressure, allergies, colds?? what is not permissable and what is?

When I said pixellated, they may allow books/materials that show either male or female private parts, so long as they are not clearly distinguishable (i.e. covered with mosaic and/or pixellated). However it is better to err on the safe side and to not even bring such material into the country. But books/magazines showing bare breasts are typically accepted.
In terms of medication, your prescription drugs are usually acceptable, but you should bring your doctor's note just in case, and be prepared (have some backup plan) if you have to leave medication behind at customs.

thanks for the info. didn't know they permit books/mag's that show bare breasts...interesting.
anyhow, i think they allow up to 200,000 yen of souvenirs via customs, about $2000, i don't even think i will be spending that much in souvenirs.
