thanks for the info. didn't know they permit books/mag's that show bare breasts...interesting.
anyhow, i think they allow up to 200,000 yen of souvenirs via customs, about $2000, i don't even think i will be spending that much in souvenirs.
Just be weary about paying duties when you return to the US. I forgot what the allowance was before you need to declare your goods.
not sure which clubs to hit while in Roponggi, but think that is a good place to go for clubs/bars, anyone else has suggestions?
any good ones in roponggi/shibuya?
ahhh, that club Neo looks good from the pix off their website, you planning on going to that one? cool.
for a country that invented the hentai manga, i'm sure it's not a problem...
yeah, hentai manga almost everywhere like it is no big deal, i guess they allow some of those types of material to pass thru customs, apparently, just as long as it is not hardcore.

hi everyone again.... ahven't been on the board for a while... hope qilver's planning is going alright.
One homestay I was arranging didn't work out because I was too late applying, so now I've been searching for families offering homestay. Now I have contacted a family that seems verry interesting to me and I really want to live with them, but the downside is, they live in Fukui Prefecture (don't know if it's the city or just prefect). The family warned me that it's very country-side so that I would not be disappointed.
Could anyone give their thoughts on my options? I will stay there for 2 weeks so is country-side anything interesting? Maybe also, Japanese have different views of what's country-side and what's not since Japans average cities are probably larger then what I'm used to (amsterdam etc). I can ask these things to the family ofcourse, but I'm afraid to offend them if I'm too much hesitating. _________________

I've never been to that part of Japan, so my opinion is probably limited. However it appears to be outside of the plains regions (Kanto, Kansai), so that may be why they say it's "country". Hopefully someone else will be able to provide more information.

sorry ot here about the not able to go to the 1st homestay. I'm looking at the JPNese map and i see it's a long way aways from the major cities and/or ports. Altho never been to fukui, i think i would go there and experience the JPN country side. How many chances do you get to see natural JPN? As far as Tokyo/Osaka/Kobe/whatever, you can always go to thoses places NEXT time, but to me, it's just not too often that one can stay at countrysiadeJPN. usually people go to the main places and thats all they know. You can experience the other side of urban sprall, and next time you go, visit the major tourist places and compare the 2.
Altho it's just my 2 yen, I'd go. And besides, you can always catch the train to the kansai region at least 1 weekend, right?

i agree, i spent a day and half in hakone which is pretty country...it was soooo different from tokyo and yokohama...i went there for onsen (japanese hot springs)....it was, to use a cliche, so zen, it was like i was in a different country altogether....also spent the time traveling on (by boat) and around the lake asami region near hakone. it was very relaxing and special, with all the greenery and forested areas it was dope. maybe i'll post some of pictures of that portion of my trip later.

allright then thanks for pushing me over the line. I had already sortof decided to do it, since the family seemed so interesting to me, but knowing that countryside is great for a visit convinces me further. I'll go write them now hope it all works out, probably will, they're very welcoming. _________________
