Congrats bmw.
Have fun with it and don't break it by fooling around with it too much.

Cool. I know you'll enjoy it. If it saves you any amount of time converting the tapes to DVD, it'll be worth every penny, right?

You bet. Thumbsup

Picked up some more DVD-RAM discs at BB ($15 for 5, not bad) and I'm on project #1: transfer my LDs to DVD. Big Grin

Uh oh, got a slight problem:

Although I can play the DVD-RAM on my PC using PowerDVD, Windows Explorer cannot read the DVD-RAM disc... Sweat

I suspect it's because I'm running Win2K and there's no UDF driver for the DVD-RAM drive...

Suggestions before I commit seppuku?

Didn't think there would be a speed bump... I'm guessing the UDF driver in Nero, InCD, doesn't work. Sweat

Just found InCD late last night... Seems to be buggy: causes Win2K to be unresponsive at times, not to mention it uses some system resources...

Oddly, I've discovered that supposedly Win2K SP2 supports DVD-RAM automatically, whereas SP4 does not. Grumble

Great going, Microsoft. Smack!

Need another option (aside from XP)...

No luck.

Looks like I've got only three choices: the Roxio UDF driver, the Nero InCD driver, and the Adaptec UDF driver... Sweat Bang Head

Sorry to hear that. I wonder why MS decided to do that in SP4. Crazy

No idea.

From numerous queries at support.microsoft.com, the whole thing is completely ignored/covered up. It's JFK all over again...!

I thought about that before I bought the recorder, but the DVD-RAM offers more features and flexibility, one of 'em being that it's the only format on the Panasonic that can record 16:9.... All the others are 4:3 only. Sweat

BTW, the Adaptec/Roxio UDF drivers bite: they locked up Windows, so InCD is the way to go. Sweat

I should try the DVD-RAM disc in my PC. But I have WinXP, so it should be fine, right?

Actually the DVD-RAM would be perfect, since I am finding episodes here and there on my tapes. Even with the labels, it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

From what I've read, yes.

I'm surprised that you haven't tried it out yet... I'm still bleary-eyed after playing with the recorder for the past two days... Nut

I've been going through the tapes to figure out what to record. But what I should do is record them as I see them onto the DVD-RAM. Then I can collate them on the PC.

That's a good idea.

One thing I did discover, albeit late: when buying DVD-RAM discs get the higher speed ones, not the 2-3X ones that I bought: it takes 25+ minutes to copy the entire 4.7GB to my HD... Sweat
