Yup, consider it one of the prices we pay for living in California. I've lived through numerous earthquakes: one devastating, and many others minor. It will come, no doubt about it, but we try to minimize the damage.
You're talking about SF-1989, right?
I've been through at least two that I recall: 1971 (Sylmar), and 1994 (Northridge)... Didn't affect me or relatives, but they were devastating nonetheless.

Yup, the 1989 Loma Prieta quake. When the Bay Bridge was being repaired, I remember it took forever to get from the East Bay into San Francisco since we had to go around on two other bridges.

It's a problem, but we live with it, just like the people in Japan.
But they're probably much more prepared than we are.
My goodness I feel like a jinx. I asked you about earthquakes today in your area and then you got one. I finally saw it on the news. I hope everyone is safe.
heard about the earthquake, think it was around 1:50pm today right?
I also heard on the News about the one off the coast of Eureka. I was up in Nor-Cal all week and just got back today, didn't know about it, heard it shook a little. I hate them eq's.
must be earthquake weather, this june gloom. Funny it was sunny, but a bit cooler at night all week in San Jose, and i come back to Irvine and it is all the june gloom again, and heard from my from back in SJ as it is raining again.

The one in Nor Cal was rather scary. A 7.0 and a tsunami warning followed immediately. All my co workers were freaked out and stuff even tho we are in So Cal. Its amazing how nature works. _________________

Yeah, some people at LV were freaking (well not really but sort of) about that too. Since the LV I work at is in the "zone" if a tsunami were to happen.
My house is only a 7 minute (3 minute) run away and is out of the "zone". I told them to come on up if something were to happen.
I know, I know. I shouldn't take it lightly but c'mon. There's no need to freak out. Freaking out and being cautious and proactive is another.
Oh yeah. And it's super hot right now. Sucks. _________________

i think waiks is the only city in hawaii that does not (read as: cannot) have an evacuation plan. if there is a tsunami warning, residents are advised to move UP, not OUT. i believe they recommend at least three stories or higher.

Because of the number of people involved? I could imagine all the roads leading out of Waikiki absolutely clogged.

Don't they have the "zones" mapped out in the front pages of the phone book? Hilton falls in the "zone" however if I remember correctly, it was only up to Hilton. Anything after that isn't in the "zone". And I'm on the 10th floor too. _________________
