*EYES* you better...

Amazing, I just saw that "Der Untergang" is now showing in Japan. Sweet. The best German movie since "Das Boot" and not the usual cliché filled stuff about WW2 woohoo.

I saw the movie alone in the cinema, cause nobody of my friends wanted to watch it with me... :-(
I really liked it, most of the recent movies with Bill Murray are strange
(just take The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou as an example!!!)

It's not in MY FAV MOVIES list, but I think the idea and the story are great
and Sarlett is a good actress yippee

I liked "Lost in Translation." I saw in a NYC movie theatre with a friend of mine from Tokyo. I was never a big Bill Murray fan from his SNL days or even in his "Groundhogs' Day'" movie but in this particular movie he nailed the aging, mid-life crisis, over the hill actor to a T. Plus Scarlett Johansson's performance as a young, soul searching, married woman with no real career or dreams of her own also nailed her character too. Tokyo's aliveness and Kyoto's serenity were perfect backdrops for what was happening in these 'lost in translations' new-found friends. It gave a wonderful glimpse into the varied world of relaxation Japanese-style that we may never get to see through an American's eyes, while two strangers in a strange land sought solice in each other. The music was good, the humor was good, the scenery was good, the acting was superb, both by American and Japanese actors. And I got to see Japan at a pace I could digest without subtitles. My friend who saw this movie with me, who now lives in his native Tokyo and who has also lived in NYC for over a decade, enjoyed this movie also.

I am not the kind of person that enjoys 'action films' all that much, so maybe that is why the pace of this film was not boring to me in the least. Maybe if you sip some Suntory whiskey or drink some sake while watchiing this film you will find the beauty in its slow meandering style. What is not to like, it was filmed in Japan in all of its glory! Applaud

PS. I liked the bar scenes and the men's club scene too. Wink

PSS. For relaxing time make it Suntory time.

loved the film.

the culture differences provided the comedy for me as i've been in a similar situation in japan(not filming a cm for millions i'm afraid!) myself.

plus suntory whisky is very nice!

yep, it's a film that i happily watch over and over and i still laugh at the same bits!

which reminds me, i lent the dvd to a friend and he's had it 6 weeks now! must get it back to watch again...

the funniest scene for me (i'm sure this bit was unplanned) is when bill is talking to that old japanese guy in the hospital while waiting for scarlet and the two ladies behind can't stop laughing. so funny!

which one is burgundy?

It's very macho and Humvee-ish ( bleh )... The Batmobile from Batman Forever still rules, IMO. Wink
