Hello

I was wondering if anyone here was studying any kind of Japanese martial art? I've always found the Japanese martial arts the most interesting.

Personally i've trained Aikido and Iaido.

Hmm..... NO! Smile I don't think bashing people in the head with a shinai counts.... atleast it doesn't have much to do with martial arts hehe, nice try though!

I've done Aikido.

Iaido is not offered here in singapore though, probably because of strict laws governing weapons. Never had the chance to learn it.

Other than that I've been interested in Jujitsu, but that too doesn't have a large following here.

I used to spend lots of time reading up on japanese martial arts. Don't have the time to do it anymore

Actually, in JPN, it is considered as a martial art. A lot of hi schoolers take it as an extra-curricular program, much like chess club, french club, math club, soccer team, etc.

Lol I did mean that running around bashing random people in the head wasn't considered a martial art... wether or not Kendo is martial art, I don't really want to discuss further Bleah... it seems to attract dispute hehe.

I've never really studied any martial arts because there's no good places around here which teach it. As for japanese.. I've been really interested in Kendo and Kyudo. Too bad there isn't a place in Florida that teaches any of that. Dunno if you'd count them as "martial arts" though. ^_^; I would really like to study those.

Lineage? No idea. Never heard sensei mention it before. Comes directly from the Ueshiba line I suppose.

There are two major clans of practioners of akikido in singapore, one is akikia and the other shinjukia. I belong to shinjukia. To what i know the difference is the emphaisis on the kind of techniques being taught. Both are recognised by the hombu dojo in japan.
Too bad that more of the 'interesting techniques ' are not allowed to be taught in singapore. So sad.

Oh that's sad... though I can tell you that I used to follow the Nishio-sensei lineage. L
Anyway I didn't know they had those sort of restrictions anywhere.. I mean not being allowed to train various techniques.

Well good luck!

Hi everyone! I'm new here. Hi! I got here accidentally but I'm a big fan of Japanese dorama. My favorite actress is Yasuko Sawaguchi

I've done Aikido in the past, but also I practice a Chinese art called "Yi Chuan" http://www.still-as-a-mountain.info/lin_main.htm

It's very similar to Tai Chi Chuan and emphasizes cultivation of Chi energy. I have been practicing it for 17 years now and can generate palpable Chi with my hands without any contact.

A question: How can I add an avater to my profile?

The URL I have is over 30 K bytes and this forum only allows 20.
