Hattori Hanzo appears in numerous films (Shogun's Ninja, Ninja Wars, Zipang...) and TV shows. Usually he's just a supporting character. Sonny Chiba played him in Kage No Gundan Tv-series.

Kung Fu Hustle comes out on dvd, Tuesday.
US version, right? It's a cut version (theatrical version was uncut, though).
This is the version I bought about 5 months ago (uncut, of course):

he must have spent a whole lot for that set.
if they had any aya set's like that, i think you would be spending a lot eh?
I do
I get the expensive ones, for movies that she in, I get the Collectors Ed or the Limited Ed, depending on what the most expensive one is. I would buy her Drama set, but what sets me back is that I'll be spending close to $200 for a drama w/o english subs. I do plan on taking Japanese come Fall quarter, so hopefully I'll learn enough to understand conversations and all that so i can buy it _________________

wow! $200, must be a good one. There are some Aya ones that i want to see, like My little chef, i think that is the name of it. Yea, i want to take Japanese too, so i can understand my jpop music of Ayumi Hamasaki and some J-dramas. wouldn't it be cool to understand it all and watch them without the subs.

Yea...they good ones. Ace was pushing $190, MLC box set was like $190....Hitonatsu was around that too.....one of them was going for $200 or a little over that...I gotta check Yesasia again. I like the idea of understanding the music we listen to and the drama we watch w/o subs. It be nice. THe subs doesn't distract me from whats going on, even though I hear it all the time. "The subtitle distracts you from the movie" well....once you watch anime for many years....you get use to it and you don't get distracted by it nor do you miss out on whats going on either, at least I don't _________________

they sure have a lot of aya stuff on yesasia.com wonder if i can find any other j-idol stuff and nana stuff on there. was thinking of ordering the 2006 calendar when it comes out either thru there or another place...can't wait.
yeah the sub's can be a little distracting too at times, but we need them for now to understand them. there will be a day when i can watch a j-drama without the eng subs, that would cool.
I think after enough of the j-dramas, you do pick up a little words and culture, but only a little. what i really want to learn besides basic conversation Japanese, is reading and writing the Japanese characters.
And one more funny thing I found on another DVD. In "Kill Bill vol.1", we can see a Japanese actor Sonny Chiba obviously missing his lines in Japanese. In the scene that his role as Hattori Hanzo finishes his new sword and passes it to The Bride (Uma Thurman), his required lines were: "MOSHI KAMI GA TACHIHADAKAREBA KAMI WO MO KIRERU DAROU" (If the God interrupts you to go, this sword can even kill him). It's very serious scene, but the word "TACHIHADAKARU" (to stand to interrupt) is pretty hard to pronounce even for us. In the movie, Chiba once says like "KAMI GA TADA..." and quickly corrects it "KAMI GA TACHIHADAKAREBA". I guess that he must have spoken those lines without any mistakes in another take, but sadly, no one in the editing room might understand Japanese language to find which one was an OK take. Isn't it rare that such a clear mistake remained unnoticed until the movie was released?
it would be pretty funny if it is true. of all people, sonny chiba...man, i'm hoping that blogger made a mistake.

I just don't want to replace those VHS tapes - dvd's are nice if you want eyecandy for LOTR or any CG stuff, those kungfu flicks on dvd usually don't look much better than VHS even after remastering

But VHS tapes don't last forever... I've got some of those remasters and they're quite pristine in quality... Worth the money, IMO, and thy're only a mere $15USD...
was watching on cable tv, Jurassic Park III, loads of action, more than the first two, but not sure how will it did at the box office, still it was entertainment. The amazon jungle environment, reminded me a bit of hawaii's tropical climate, all humid, warm, and oh so sticky.

Did #3 even debut in the theatres? I can't even remember. _________________
